Bethlehem – Ma’an/Agencies – The administrators of the social networking website Facebook have removed a page set up by supporters of de facto Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, the London-based daily Al-Hayat reported on Sunday.

The webpage, called “Commander Ismail Haniyeh,” had attracted more than 10,000 fans by the time it was removed, the report states.

One Facebook user connected with the page told Al-Hayat that no explanation had been given for the removal of the page. The source said he feared Facebook could also remove other Hamas-related pages, including one devoted to the group’s exiled political leader, Khalid Mash’al, who has attracted more some 17,000 friends.

Another Facebook page devoted to Haniyeh is still online, listing 3,415 friends at the time of writing. Dozens of other pages both for and against Hamas are also still online.

The Facebook’s terms and conditions of use include a rule that users “will not post content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, or that contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.”

The website’s administrators have not confirmed the report.
