Ramallah – Ma’an – Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Al-Maliki met with British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East Ivan Lewis and a high-profile delegation in Ramallah on Tuesday.

Al-Maliki updated the guests on the situation in the Palestinian territories especially latest developments of Palestinian national dialogue in Cairo. He emphasized the necessity that the international community exert pressure on Israel to implement its part of the Road Map plan, and to accept the Arab peace initiative as well as international resolutions aimed at reaching peace agreement in the Middle East.

For his part, Lewis confirmed that Britain opposes Israeli settlement activities in the Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem. He also applauded the Palestinian Authority for the progress they made in fields of security, economy, and development across the West Bank. He also applauded the Palestinian government’s two-year strategic plan asserting that Britain will continue to support Palestinian efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state to live side by side next to Israel.
