Nablus – Ma’an – Local refugee camp committees in Nablus in the northern West Bank said on Tuesday they are planning more protests against the UN relief agency UNRWA for allegedly reducing services to West Bank refugees.
According to Ibrahim Saqr, coordinator of the Nablus committees, the protests will proceed as follows:
1- Closing UNRWA’s Nablus directorate office. 2- Closing the UNRWA warehouses. 3- Closing the welfare offices both the central and local branches. 4- Preventing movement of UNRWA vehicles into refugee camps.
Saqr explained that the local committees demanded the UNRWA to halt the alleged reductions in services as agreed during the previous meeting in‘Ein Beuit Elma refugee camp in Nablus.
The West Bank coordinator of the refugee camp committees Ahmad Thouqan called on the UNRWA to show credibility when they deal with the local committee and to stick to its responsibility towards refugees. “The local committees are the link between refugees and the UNRWA,” he said urging the UNRWA to avoid neglecting local committees’ demands.
