Settlers chop down Nablus olive grove on eve of harvest

Nablus – Ma’an – Dozens of chainsaw-wielding Israeli settlers cut down more than 150 olive trees in to the northern West Bank village of Burin, south of Nablus on Monday.

The assault came a few days before Palestinian farmers throughout the country begin harvesting their olives.

According to Ghassan Daghlas, the Palestinian official in charge of monitoring settlement activity in the northern West Bank, dozens of Israelis from the settlement Yitzhar raided fields in the area of Khallat Siwar between the villages of Huwwara and Burin and cut down more than 150 olive trees using chainsaws.

Daghlas labeled the settlers’ attack as “criminal act” calling on human right groups to take action to stop Israeli settlers’ assaults against the Palestinians and their property.

So why not make peace with Israel, and stop all these futile acts. Here in Pakistan we realised at last we could never beat India in armed confrontation, so we made peace to benefit both our peoples. Stop fighting Iran and Syrian wars, and do what is best for Palestine, you corrupt leaders.

Find a good Israeli lawyer and sue in the Israeli courts for compensation for as many years lost as the grove would take to restore. Sue the Israeli government for fiduciary failure to protect civilian assets from Israeli criminals. Israeli gov. incompetence is no justification for the loss.

Settlers bearing chain saws and cutting down trees ... OK, this has probably happened. But, in this case, is the story verified. After all, Yitshar is an orthdox Jewish settlement, and Monday was Yom Kippur. Something is wrong with this story.

Typical animalistic behavior by Israeli settlers. First they steal Palestinian land and then they destroy the property of legitimate farmers who cultivate a cash crop. This is more of the same outrageous behavior by God's "chosen people". Religious lunatics using God as an excuse to destroy.

Whoever kills trees for the sake of destruction invites devastation upon themselves. It's as simple as that. As far as some other comments above go, while no one can actually "own" land, we can only ever be its temporary keepers, Palestinians were certainly living upon and "keeping" this land first.
