Jenin – Ma’an – A seventeen-year-old student was killed on Wednesday morning when an Israeli military jeep ran him over near the West Bank city of Jenin.

According to witnesses, Foad Mahmoud Nayif Turkman, 17, was standing with other students outside Izz Ad-Din Al-Qassam high school in the village of Ya’bad, West of Jenin at 11am.

Mohammed Naiyf, Turkman’s uncle and a teacher at the school, said he saw army forces “came onto the road of the school. This road is especially for the school.”

“The jeep was driving fast towards a group of students. The jeep ran over [Turkman’s] body with all four wheels, and then backed up and drove over him again. Then the soldiers wouldn’t allow us to get Foad for about 15 minutes,” he added.

Turkman was then taken to Jenin government hospital where he was eventually declared dead.

After Turkman was run over dozens of schoolchildren protested, throwing stones at Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas grenades. According to Nayif, soldiers also threw gas grenades into the school itself. Dozens of children chocked on the gas.

An Israeli military spokesperson said that rocks were thrown at a routine military patrol near the settlement of Mevo Dotan. In addition, the spokesperson said that the jeep had experience mechanical difficulties.

The military also denied that it delayed the evacuation of Turkoman's body, and in fact offered to transport the badly injured student to an Israeli hospital. Turkoman's condition did not allow this, the spokesperson said, and he was taken to Jenin in a private Palestinian vehicle.

The military spokesperson also said an investigation into the incident is “ongoing,” and added that “hundreds” of stone-throwing Palestinians were “rioting” in the area.

Sad commentary on Israel! Is the Israeli government capable of investigating the crimes it committed in Gaza? The Israeli government is full of Nazis!

My nine years of intensively reading Israeli newspapers has convinced me that the Israeli army does what it wants to do and then says anything it pleases to make itself look good, exaggerating or lying to make the impression it wants.

I "love" how the writer puts "ongoing", "hundreds" and "rioters" under quotation marks, as though to doubt it. very modern journalism. objectivity, anyone? cheers.

It is about time that the army stopped the stone throwing from the hill above the road that leads through the wadi of Yabad.Apparently the local community cannot stop their children and therefore there is no choice but the Israeli army to finally do something so there will be quiet. Kol Ha Kavod!!

very easy to sit all those miles away from the conflict and talk as though you live this situation. your words are based on cheap propoganda and biased media.

To:ABC,My words are based by living next to Yabad, Tora, Nazlet a zeid and Um Reihan for the last 28 years. Those whom were brought up after the Israeli army freed Sameria from the Jordan Occupation think they can do whatever they like: stone throwing, bombs. The older appriciate the Israeli help.

To: ABC, the reason the words "ongoing", "hundreds" and "rioters" are in QUOTATION marks is because they are being QUOTED from another source. Think before you speak please.

To Calum: if you are quoting someone it is proper to quote the whole sentence - not just a word here and there. ABC is correct in stating that any single word in quotation is understood in academic world as sarcasim.

In any event, your article smacks of biased reporting: judge and jury all in one

i live in palestine and ive witnessed what the israelis do to the palestinians. the israeli actions are never just and they say they are helping the palestinians when really they are killing so many innocent civilians and taking away their souls and identity. the israelis are cold hearted murderers.

Sorry what planet do the people who want to defend the I.D.F live on? How is it in any way justifiable for an occupying army to murder a teenager by crushing his body? This is not unfair reporting this is a consequence of an Illegal occupation, recognized as such by the U.N since '67!!!
