Bethlehem – Ma’an – Witnesses said that 500 protesters gathered in downtown Ramallah on Monday afternoon in the latest expression of public anger at the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) decision to delay action on a United Nations report on alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

Organizers said that up to 1000 people attended the demonstration.

Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza, and the Diaspora have been united in their outrage at the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas for ordering the PLO envoy to Geneva to defer action in the UN Human Rights Council on the report compiled by former war crimes prosecutor Richard Goldstone.

Media reports have suggested that Abbas’ government made the decision under heavy international pressure led by the US.

Monday’s demonstration in Al-Manara square went ahead without incident or interference from PA security forces, witnesses said.

Political parties, the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO) and civil society organizations called for the demonstration.

Among the parties who visibly attended the demonstration were the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI – Al-Mubadara) and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).

One of the convening organizations, the Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, also issued a statement in advance of the protest.

“This irresponsible action is detrimental to the interests of our people, their rights and their struggle. It denies justice to the sacrifices of our people and the blood of our martyrs,” the organization said of the decision to postpone the vote in the Human Rights Council.

The delay of the vote was, the campaign said, “a slap in the face of all those who stand in solidarity with our people's struggle for justice, and all of the human rights organizations and institutions which have mobilized their forces to hold Israel accountable for its massacres and violations of Palestinian rights”

How much more proof do people need before realizing that Abbas is a traitor?

#2 The question is how we can get rid of him. If only 500 showed up to express their shock and disgust at Abbas' cowardly act, then what hope is there for independence and freedom?

Actually, the majority of the protesters were PFLP, but the majority of the flags were for the PNI.

I know. Its really making me sad to know that there are palestinians who support Abbas among the people. How can this be? Dont the people realize Abbas is a traitor? The hole Fatah party is dead. Abbas and Dahlan has reformed the Fatah Palestinian party to Fatah traitor party.
Vote for Hamas!!

Yahya..

Hamas of Islamic Jihad supporters cant show their solidarity to Hamas and Islamic Jihad and cant have their flags because then Abbas traitors men arrest them and put them in jail like they already have done with more than 1000 Hamas and Islamic Jihad supporters.

Have no fear, don't be so sad. Long Live Free Palestine-No Israeli Occupation or PNA or HAMAS rule or state, religious terrorism. There will be justice, freedoms, mobility and dignity restored. People need to raise their own consciousness instead of raising up corrupt selfish unintelligent leaders.

Marriam..its like a zionist writing. You dont know anything about Hamas. Hamas is the only big party in the palestinian soil who is working for the palestinian cause!! Its thanks to Hamas the 20 female prisoners where freed 2 days ago. Thanks to them Gilad Shalit !! Are you palestinian???

Iyad, why is it you accuse anyone who criticises Hamas or does not agree with their tactics as "un-Palestinian"? Have u heard of free speech? Did uexpect Hamas to have a 100% popularity in Palestine? Also claiming that they're the only patriotic party is unfair. PNI is a great party, pro-peace.

Iyad, Hamas are no angels, lets not forget they have little political experience and were not able to formulate a clear and concise political policy on how to liberate us. They think they can regain Palestine by force....wont happen. We need BRAINS like Marwan Barghouti. He can deliver!

Long live Fatah...Revolution until victory!..I prefer another man then Abbas but I am not going to yell like the most people..cause yelling leads to nothing. If people wants to walk the sunna way than I ask you all...your yelling is that sunna? NO it isn't.

Hamas did'n kidnap Shalit for the people who say they did..it was another islamic group...And wow in 3 years they freed 20 women...In the 3 years there are more then 1000 freed thrue the PA. 20 women freed. the zionist jail everyday 20 ..so where did this lead us to? where is the victory..

Iyad, what Mariam wrote is national writing, not zionist writing. As for the freedom of the 20 female prisoners...all due respect for Hamas, but please do not forget that the PFLP, Fateh, and other PLO parties in the past have freed many many prisoners decades before the establishment of Hamas.

Iyad...
I live in palestine and i know what i happening here. Hamas and the Islamic Jihad could have came to the demonstration without raising their flags, just as other parties did. In my opinion no flags other than the Palestinian flag should be raised in protests like yesterdays protest.

Iyad, don't forget that Hamas in Gaza jailed resistance frighters from the Islamic Jihad and the PFLP for firing rockets into the zionist entity. If the international community made it easier for Hamas, they would be the same comprador merchants as fateh members in the PA are today.
