Bethlehem - Ma'an - In a speech in Damascus on Sunday evening, Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mash'al reiterated the Islamic movement's position that President Mahmoud Abbas's term ended in January.

The Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority's leader is "an illegal president," Mash'al insisted at the start of an expansive speech that touched on the Goldstone report fiasco in Geneva and PA security arrangements with Americans and Israelis.

He also called for rebuilding the Palestine Liberation Organization, which is dominated by Fatah and excludes Hamas, insisting, "Fatah deserves better leadership."

The PA "cooperates with [US General Keith] Dayton against us, and takes bribes from those who would impose force on the resistance [in Gaza] in exchange for bribes for Palestinians in the West Bank," he added. "The one we expect to lead - is leading us to doom."

"This is a group that doesn't even bother to deny [Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor] Lieberman's claim that the PA asked to extend the war on Gaza," he said. "This is a group that cooperates with stifling Palestinian resistance."

He said the PA "provides free services to the Israelis, persecutes the resistance, and turns a blind eye to settlements... How can we believe that they'll fight for Jerusalem and the Right of Return?" he asked. "They must be prosecuted."

Mash'al is right. I do not support Hamas generally but Abbas' speech offered nothing new, and instead of giving a heart-felt apology to the Palestinian people, Abbas ironically sought to justify the actions leading to the whole fiasco. He divided the Palestinians further: bad leader.

What is ilegal? President Abbas or the coupe in gaza? what is ilegal? President Abbas or the killings of muslims in gaza? What is ilegal? President Abbas or Meshaal who is a puppet of Iran/Syria? What is ilegal? President Abbas or Meshaal who is dividing us or stoping factions to do jihad in gaza

#4 for the sake of unity, suppose both Fatah and Hamas have ruined our cause and causing us daily embarassment worldwide. What is illegal, a democratically elected government or endless corruption and nepotism in the Fatah-controlled PA? Why is Abbas the thug in charge of PA, Fatah, and PLO?

Being a citizen of a country who has fought freedom struggle and won, what i can say is parties like fatah are the one who creates hurdles. We have seen hamas winning elections democratcally and now they have the popular support of pople.Fatah has to accept the defeat due to its corrupt and submitting policies. There is no doubt that abbas is working for israel and us.People has to open thier eyes and see.Hamas is acting on a balanced note.Fatah needs a good leadership.hamas is not shia.
