Al-Arish – Ma'an – Egyptian security forces detained five smugglers, uncovered a tunnel and seized electronic equipment and spare auto parts in the border area with Gaza on Friday, according to security sources in Cairo.

These sources told Ma'an the tunnel was discovered in the Al-Brazil area of Rafah, which borders both Egypt and Gaza, and added that security forces overran the area where quantities of goods and equipment were found en route to the besieged coastal strip.

Five suspects were detained on charges they intended to smuggle car parts, and were said to have been observed beforehand.

Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities found a stock of electronic equipment in the Ar-Arish area, the sources said, adding that the supposed electrical equipment was to be used for tunnels.

Motorcycles, refrigerators and tons of sugar were also found, they said.
