Israeli media: Projectile lands in western Negev

Bethlehem - Ma'an - Israeli media reported that a projectile fired from the Gaza Strip landed near the western Negev town of Sderot on Sunday evening, causing no damage or injury.
According to several Israeli news reports, it was the second attack of the day.
Israel's military deferred inquiries to a police spokesperson, who did not immediately return calls seeking comment late Sunday night.
But the Jerusalem Post, an English-language newspaper, claimed a "Kassam launched by Palestinian terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday night hit an open area in the Sha'ar Hanegev region."
The paper published a separate report that morning, which the army denied by mid-afternoon.
Approached by Ma'an, a military spokesman said he was unaware, at the time, of any such attack emanating from Gaza in the last 48 hours, casting doubt on the day-long press accounts of explosions and alerts.
But in Sderot, the southern Israeli town supposedly targeted by at least one homemade projectile on Sunday morning, residents urged the army to respond in force.
"This won't end as long as the situation vis-à-vis Gaza remains unclear," said Alon Schuster, the head of the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, in an interview with the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. "I expect an Israeli reaction that will bring an end to this."
The army's immediate reaction was that the attack never took place, according to another spokesman.
Meanwhile, Israel's Channel Seven was reporting as late as midnight that on "Sunday morning, a Kassam rocket touched down near the Gaza security fence," the first of two homemade projectiles "launched by terrorists in the northern part of Hamas-controlled Gaza."
Ma'an could not independently determine whether the Israeli news reports were the result of false alarms, as none of the papers or agencies in question mentioned sources in their articles.
However, there were early reports that an emergency siren test was scheduled for Sunday morning at 11:00am, the same hour Israeli media began reporting the first "Color Red" alerts of the day. But the drill was to take place in Acre, far north of Gaza and Sderot.
In any case, Palestinian armed groups also claimed responsibility, in several statements, for at least two projectile launches and other attacks on southern Israeli targets the night before. The Israeli army denied those reports, as well.
