Nablus – Ma’an – Barakat Al-Farra was appointed as the Palestinian Authority ambassador to Egypt and permanent delegate to the Arab League on Thursday, the Palestinian embassy in Cairo said.

The news released by the embassy added that “after Al-Farra was sworn in by PA President Mahmoud Abbas he became the Palestinian ambassador to Egypt officially and the PA’s delegate in the Arab League.”

Al-Farra had worked as the alternate representative of the ambassador for more than a year and a half.

The embassy also said Al-Farra “proved his professionalism mainly after former ambassador Nabil Amr quit in October.”

Additionally, the source anticipated that Al-Farra’s new appointment would positively affect Palestinian diplomatic obligations in Egypt and Arab functionaries, highlighting Al-Farra’s extensive experience in the field of diplomacy spanning more than 20 years.

Al-Farra holds a PhD in agricultural economy and retains strong ties with Arab and foreign diplomats. The Palestinian embassy added that the new Palestinian ambassador to Egypt has been calling for transparency since Amr resigned from the post.

Amr, a well-known critic of late President Yasser Arafat and Abbas, resigned in August, although many speculate he was forced out. The official claimed in October that the PA cancelled his security detail because of critical remarks he made about Abbas’ delaying of UN action on the Goldstone report on war crimes in Gaza.
