Bethlehem - Ma'an/Agencies - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is opposed to a recently reported two-phase peace deal with Palestinians, Israel's Jerusalem Post reported Friday.

The report follows rumors in the Israeli media that the country's leaders were holding secret talks with Hamas on a two-phase peace deal, which Hamas denied. Thursday reports said Netanyahu was reserving comment on the issue until more information was available.

A Friday article in the Jerusalem Post, however, said Netanyahu is interested in a final-status agreement, citing "courageous [Palestinian] leadership" as the reason behind a desire to resume talks with President Mahmoud Abbas before the leader leaves office. Netanyahu reportedly said a final-status agreement was preferable to an interim one where a Palestinian state would be created on temporary boundaries. The leader reportedly said Abbas should not be "counted out" as a peace partner, and that it was too early to "write off" the Palestinian leader.

Abbas has been clear that he will not resume peace talks with Israel until the country declares a complete halt to settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Last week 900 settlement homes were approved for construction in the Gilo settlement, built in Bethlehem.

According to the report, however, there is "no indication" from Netanyahu's office that there will be a halt to settlement construction, despite what it says were rumors Wednesday that a 10-month moratorium plan was "in the works" and that American mediators were prepared to call the move "enough to restart the negotiations."

Bibi can go straight to hell. No sane Palestinian will negotiate with him. Well, except maybe hypocritical and Salafist Hamas. NO to temporary borders/statelet, NO to Fatah, NO to Hamas, yes to the Palestine Solution. Justice and freedom for all.

Israel will never stop constructing houses on Palestinian land until they are totally isolated by the entire world community, the US cuts their aid and the UN allows the Palestinians to unilaterally declare and the World recognizes a Palestinian state. Obama it's time to put up or shut up.

nour the reason hamas has a calm in gaza is because the peolple needed that calm to reorganize and build but dont think for one sec. that the resist is not rearming itself for the next confrontation. you are bad mouthing hamas saying they are working with israel becuz abbas and fatah says so

when the gaza war hapn it was fatah's armed wing who went against the policy laid out by abbas of no resistance. u have top fatah leaders saying that abbas, dahlan, rabbo, etc. were behind arafat's death and u take their word that hamas is negotiating with israel. hamas prompted the calm to help da pal

is it fatah or hamas who is trying to free barghouti? is it fatah or hamas who is arresting the resistance and then turning them over to the iof. man u on one hand hate abbas but on the other hand u act like u believe him when he says hamas is a puppet of israel.

what makes u think hamas will negotiate with israel when its hamas who has offered 1.4mil.$ to any arab who can kidnap an israeli soldier to be used to free over 11,000 palestinian prisoners. who is it that ended corruption in gaza, who is it arming themselves in the wb to confont the iof.

There have been enough peace talks over the last 16 years that every position on every issue on both sides is open it's time to put pen to paper a finalize the deal, get on with it after all this time it should only take a month to finalize it. Get it done and move ahead, put the past behind you.
