Bethlehem – Ma’an – President Mahmoud Abbas said in an interview published on Tuesday that he stopped a third Palestinian intifada from occurring during the Israeli offensive against Gaza last winter

Speaking to New York’s Wall Street Journal, Abbas also said he would not allow another uprising to take place as long as he stays in office.

“I will not allow a new intifada. As long as I'm in office, I will not allow anybody to start a new intifada. Never never. But if I leave, it's no longer my responsibility and I can't make any guarantees. It could happen,” he said.

“It's not my business to follow up. I promise and I can do. And I already promised and I did during the invasion of Gaza. At that time everybody asked me to go to a third intifada, but I prevented anybody from doing it.”

In the interview he also denied reports that the CIA is working closely with PA security forces who torture detainees.

The issue resurfaced last Thursday in an article in the UK daily The Guardian, which reported that, according to western diplomats and other officials, the CIA seemed to be supervising the work of the Preventive Security Organization (PSO) and General Intelligence Service (GI).

“We have no relationship with the CIA at all. We have a relationship with the State Department. The State Department sends us some Americans to train and rebuild the Palestinian security apparatuses. That's it,” Abbas was quoted as saying.

“There is US training of our forces,” he said, “We don't deny that at all. But not just American. Russia, and Jordan and France and many countries help in training us. And [US security coordinator Kieth] Dayton's team is from a number of countries, not just America. America gives us nothing but training,”

The Guardian’s report also quoted PA officials reporting that between 400 and 500 Hamas are held by the security forces.

At least three detainees died in PA custody in 2009.

He's actually proud of letting Israel commit massacres in Gaza in peace? What a filthy collaborator

And what is he proud of?! He stopped a third intifada he says. Abbas is a traitor.

and so speaks a traitor, so speaks one who sold his country, his people and his honour (in case he had any in the first place, which i doubt) we shall never forget this abbas, we shall never forget what you did to Jerusalem, to Gaza and to every single Palestinian, you traitor, and your day will come

This man is a zionist. He dont care for the palestinians. Without Hamas the palestinian cause would have been dead. Offcourse the other small factions too but they dont have so much effect and they dont have so much power like Hamas.

He is not a Zionist. He just had overly optimistic expectations of the Israelis, so he gave and gave and gave, and shut up while they took land. As for stopping another Intifada, I think that is smart. Every time a Palestinian kills an Israeli soldier, they kill ten Palestinians, maybe fifty. Fighting is not the way to go unless you have a way to win.

Those who has spoken before me knows fuck all about what is happenning here. Last Intifada caused a great harm to our cause and nothing but disaster

Somebody throw him a bone. Abbas is so immersed in VIP and luxury life he totally forgot what it feels like to be a common Palestinian on the street with no dignity nor a job. Under Abbas -> The number of settlers increased by hundreds of thousands Under Abbas -> Corruption has skyrocketed and morality has plummeted. Under Abbas -> The Palestinian nation split in 2. Under Abbas -> Palestinians fight each other like wild dogs. Under Abbas -> Secret coordination occurs between Shin Bet and PA

Has anyone noticed how MAAN prevents us from commenting on certain articles? Is MAAN falling prey to the PA censorship machine or requirements to subdue 'sensitive topics'? Maan, you're doing a wonderful job and you're actually implemented our suggestion to increase comment character limit so thanks. But please, answer the above somehow!

Yes, he is talking the truth, because he is a stooge, and his American/Zionist masters normally don't feel its important to disclose all their secrets to a low grade stooge; They don't need to!!

for the anynomous from gaza, u must be one of abbas' thugs, those on his payroll. We live in hell in Occupied Palestine, zionist settlers everywhere, ethnic cleansing on daily basis in Jerusalem and in Area C, over 600 checkpoints, land confiscation and daily arrests by IOF, so you are the one who has no idea! We are already living in hell, thanks to Israel and to Abbas. at least an Intifada will give us hope to get rid of both!

Abbas prevented an Intifada to appease the US and Israel. Of course and as usual, that got Palestinians nothing. Nobody cares about Palestinians, except for maybe God. And now all Abbas asks for is a settlements freeze including Occupied East J'lem and Netanyahu can't do it.

Abbas' job is to serve the interests of Israel and the USA, and he is doing a great job in that. We need an internal intifada to get rid of this collaborationist and illegitimate leadership (the whole P.A.) before we can struggle effectively against the occupiers.
