Gaza – Ma’an – The Palestinian Authority came under pressure on Saturday to end security cooperation with Israel in the wake of the slaying of six Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

"It was a message to the Palestinian rivals to unify their efforts to confront the occupation," said Mustafa Sawwaf, the editor of Gaza’s Filastin (Palestine) newspaper.

"What happened Saturday is evidence of the occupation's policy of revenge, and an attempt to spark a new cycle of violence on the anniversary of the Gaza war; it should alert us all that this is a time to activate the resistance," Sawwaf said during an interview Saturday night.

In a statement, the Leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) urged the PA to end both political negotiations and security coordination with Israel in the wake of the killings.

The group said negotiations with Israel this stage would be “absurd,” and security coordination would “provide cover for the perpetration of these crimes.”

“This systematic organized behavior of the Israeli army its leaders and settlers reflects only the racism and barbarity of the occupation," it continued.

“In light of the war crimes committed against the Palestinians it is required to provide the Palestinians with temporary international and immediate protection to enable them to gain the right of self determination.”

Israeli special forces killed three alleged Palestinian fighters in the Old City of Nablus on early on Saturday, based on reported evidence that the men were behind the fatal shooting of a settler two days earlier.

The Israeli army also killed three young Palestinians near Gaza’s Erez crossing claiming they attempted to enter Israel.

The killings shattered months of relative quiet, and marked the largest death toll in a single day at the hands of Israel since the country's war on Gaza ended in January.

Another Palestinian analyst, Ibrahim Abrash, called Saturday's events a failure of the Palestinian Authority security apparatus.

"Israel is interested in bringing failure to the peace project lead by President [Mahmoud] Abbas in the West Bank and in bringing failure to the project of resistance in Gaza,” he said. With Israel imposing a blanket policy of violence and bloodshed on both areas, it is time for Palestinians to unite to confront the occupation.

this incident would have been an excellent opportunity for the PA security forces to apprehend the people who shot the civilian...to bad i hope this will not stop any cooperation that had been accomplished previously

this incident would have been an excellent opportunity for the PA security forces to cut their ties with Israel instead of being made a mockery by the Netanyahu govt. There should be no cooperation between the P.A. security forces and Israel until the political assasinations end in the West Bank and until Gaza is open instead of illegally closed in the war crime that it is. Everytime the P.A. cooperates with Israel it provides cover Israel's war crimes. Cutting ties is overdue.

any cooperation with the zio-entity is treason to Palestine, and i agree Abbas should free all the resistence fighters from jail and make colonizing Palestine a more costly project...right now they steal land in peace provided by Abbas's CIA trained security services....Abbas is the outsourced occupation for the zionazi project
