Ramallah – Ma'an – Caretaker Prime Minister Salam Fayyad ran in the Ramallah 5k on Friday, in support of the Palestine Medical Compound which hopes to provide medical services to children upon completion.

The race saw more than 500 children of all ages participate in an event overseen by Minister of Health in Ramallah Fathi Abu Moghli and senior figures from the health sector.

"Our children deserve this," Fayyad told those assembled to watch the race, organized under the same slogan.

The prime minister said huge progress had been made on the childrens ward already, and hoped it would be completed in the coming months, with the generous support of donors and the public.

One of the distinguishing features of the Palestinian Authority, he said, was the government's committment to healthcare for Palestinians, calling it one of the three tracks of the popular Palestinian resistance.

"Popular struggle, government building and the PLO political track will all support the end of the occupation and the final achievement of the Palestinian national project, at the heights of which is the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital," Fayyad said.
