Hamas rebuffs rumors of severed ties with Egypt

Gaza – Ma'an – Hamas continued to deny reports that Egypt has frozen all contact with the Islamist movement on Monday, a party spokesman said.

Sami Abu Zuhri told Ma'an that the issue was "mere media speculation," but added that relations between Gaza and Cairo are tense following an escalation in security measures by Egyptian forces along the Gaza border.

The Hamas official accused Egyptian security of killing "at least" five Gaza residents in smuggling tunnels, as well as fishermen, adding "dozens were also detained and tortured."

Concerning progress on a Hamas-Fatah unity deal, Abu Zuhri said no new suggestion have emerged save for "modest communication" between certain Fatah and Hamas leaders.

Abu Zuhri’s comments came in response to media reports that Egypt has severed all diplomatic ties with Hamas leaders in the occupied Palestinian territories and abroad, alleging that Cairo has refused to grant Hamas leaders entry visas into Egypt.

On Sunday, senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahhar further denied reports that all ties with Cairo were cut by Egypt, telling the Chinese news agency Xinhua that "There is no alienation between us and the Egyptians -- on the contrary, we are in ongoing contact with the Egyptian administration."

"Egypt cutting ties with Hamas". For those interested, there is also a headline article in Ynet News on this same topic.

Egypt has an avenue of dialogue with Hamas. Egypt faces pressure not only from it's financier the US but from the Arab world for it's sustained inhumane seige on Gaza, it's ace card is it's mediation attempts. I don't think Egypt is competant in this role but loosing it won't serve it either. Pro Israeli suppporters need worry about the world wide damage done to Israels image rather then let their insecurites about Hamas get the better of them!

That's the meaning, Malone, when I compared Hamas to the dragon, Smaug, in Tolkien's great book, "The Hobbit". After Smaug snuffed out the lives of every creature in its vicinity, it then ate its own tail. After Hamas finishes off everybody within Gaza, you watch, it will eat its own.

How did we get all these Zionists stuck here spewing their hate on this page? You guys are lucky Ma'an lets your sorry faces in. Rest assured, Hamas will still be alive when you are dead, and the thing that will keep Hamas alive is Israel's daily diet of terrorism dealt out to the Palestinians. Even Egypt sees it.

I must take the hate off, Egypt has a talent working with natural resources..... like gas

I notice, Jerrold, that you post on Ynet from time to time and you always, inevitably, critique (demonize is the more accurate term) the state of Israel. Nonetheless, you object to posters on Maan who take on a different point of view than your own and, no matter how variegated their responses, you term them all "Zionists" and object to their right to post. For your information, although Maan takes on a decidedly Palestinian perspective, it also believes in a free press. Do you understand?

It's called "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS", it seems tha';s another thing you're unfamiliar with

HaAretz also lets pro-Palestinian's to post

We'll all be dead before anybody bothers to buy your book

Heard the latest, Today's HaAretz, talk of establishing a Military Governorship for Gaza

I think you should be awarded Four Feathers for your efforts

I was actually pleasantly surprised to find Ma'an news so receptive to differing views.
Haaretz could learn a thing or two from you.
As for Jerrold Cohen...get yourself some anger management sessions.
My thanks to Ma'an news!

It's evident you haven't read HaAretz too thoroughly
Their letters page contains oodles of pro-Palestinian writers expressing their anti-Israel sentiments

It seems that MaAn has learned from HaAretz

You missed the point ,,For years I posted on Haaretz, and probably 50% of my posts were not shown because they were pro Israel or not supporting Palestine.
Ma'an seems to be more open minded.

Malone, it seems you missed the point, no newspaper can guarantee that all posts will be printed, the have space limitations, they receive hundreds of letters daily

I too haven't had all of my posts printed, and mine are always pro-Israel

At times it seems that HaAretz posts more negative posts than it does pro-Israeli

Now, if you had told me that ALL of your posts weren't published that would be quite another matter

Since you want all your posts to be printed, did you ever contemplate purchasing advertising space, HaAretz wil gladly accept the business?
