Gaza – Ma'an – Resistance brigades appeared to have ramped up efforts against Israeli forces in Gaza, with one miss-fired projectile landing in the north, an attack on a southern patrol, and allegations of Israeli fire in retaliation.

Fighters with the An-Nasser Salah Ad-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, said their fighters fired four mortar shells toward Israeli military vehicles in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday.

A statement said that at 10:55am, fighters fired at jeeps stationed east of Abasan Al-Jadida, and retreated uninjured. It added that the operation came “in retaliation to the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza strip and all the Palestinian territories.”

Israeli media reported two mortar shells landing in the Eshkol Regional Council area of the western Negev, with no injuries claimed.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said she was looking into the report.

Overnight, explosions hit the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya, a projectile aimed at Israel hit near the residential area.

Witnesses said Israeli forces fired artillery shells at areas close to where the projectile was misfired, in the Ash-Shayma neighborhood, in an apparent response to the launch.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Gaza government police told Ma'an that Israel fired a single shell into the evacuated Israeli settlement of Dugit, though an Israeli military spokesman said he was not aware of any Israeli artillery fire on the Strip.

The reports came two days after the last projectile launches from the Gaza Strip. Two separate volleys were launched on Friday, by Popular Resistance Committees' Salah Din Brigades from the Rafah, and Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades operating east of Khan Younis. No injuries were reported.
