Minister pledges support to boy under Israeli house arrest
Published Friday 01/10/2010 (updated) 06/10/2010 10:04
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Minister of Prisoners Affairs Issa Qaraqe was received on Friday by the family of a 13-year-old Hebron boy on Friday, days after the child's release from Israeli prison.

Karem Khaled Da’na, from the Wad Al-Bustan neighborhood in the West Bank city of Hebron, was taken from his family home by Israeli forces on 22 September, who said he had thrown stones at settlers on his way home from school.

The minister pledged to support the family in any way possible, as part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to secure the release of the 280 children under the age of 18 currently in Israeli prisons. Since 2000, Quraqe said, 8,000 minors were detained by Israeli forces.

According to lawyers and testimony from Karem, he was tortured and kept for six days in Israel's Ofer detention center, and later released on 3,000 shekels ($824) bail under house arrest for a period of five months without exception including going to school.

"Any state who detains young children is a state that is afraid of the future," Qaraqe told the family during the visit, accusing Israel of breaking international law and UN charters guaranteeing the rights of children when boys as young as Karem are taken from their parents' care.

Any state that uses it's children to do the dirty work that men should be doing, are a bunch of cowards
He had rights "As a child" when he acted like a child, when he took to throwing stones, he was no longer a child, he became a fighter
If you want him to be free, then stop teaching him that violence is a means to an end and don't complain because Israel Jails have kids inside

Benjy that song you are referring to does not incite the children to die as martyrs if simply states that they will die at Israeli hands. This is the truth as you well know.Note you didn't mention rabbis' incitements to kill non-Jews, even children and babies.(justified by the Torah)

Ben is talking with ADL's tongue. If someone occupies my house, beat my parents, steal my things, kills my brothers and sisters, then i do not "teaching" by anyone to throw stones at the invader. What are other alternative you suggest to the boys when their cultivations are uprooted, house demolished, tanks running on their roads, jets bombing to everything? what about zionist law which make it mandatory for most of them to serve in so called israel defense force,Reminded to every children?

It's like what the Japanese taught their people, "TO DIE FOR THE EMPEROR", they're told that to die for the cause is the way to go

Mary & Samrat
I have a great idea
Both of you can show your hearts are in the right place and that you're not merely just talking

Next time the boy intends to throw rocks, substitute for him, it will show your true sincerity

dear ben jabo... ur too funny, you think this kid was taught to throw rocks (which definitely doesnt make him a "fighter" it makes him someone who cares about justice) no one had to teach him anything...if theres a soldier that shot ur friend (or at you) while playing soccer, or a soldier that stopped you from going to school at some point in ur life, a soldier that has detianed and beaten ur dad FOR NO REASON, then you would throw rocks too!!! ANYONE would if he has a mind to see the injustce!

When I post verifiable facts, with links & sources, let them through, try being impartial

If ti's anti- Israel any nut ccan say what they want

You're either a news source or a propaganda agency, make up your mind and stop the pretenses

Israeli papers pass through a much higher percentage of anti-Israel writings than you allow through if it's negative for the Arab side
