SIRTE, Libya (Ma’an) – President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday evening in Libya called into question the need for “the Palestinian Authority's continued existence if the efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state fail.”

An official who attended the Arab League meeting in Sirte told Agence France-Presse that Abbas suggested several ways to establish a state if negotiations with Israel failed to lead to an agreement on statehood.

One option is for the US to recognize a state in the territories occupied in 1967. Another is for the UN Security Council or General Assembly to recognize a state or to put the territories under international custody.

“What is the PA needed for if all these alternatives fail?” Abbas said according to the unidentified official.

Abbas arrived Thursday ahead of meetings with the Arab League follow-up committee, at which he was expected to announce whether he would remain in negotiations. Arab heads of state were to meet Saturday.

At the emergency meeting, ministers said they would give the US one month to resolve the crisis in negotiations to avoid a total collapse of the peace process.

Peace talks, relaunched in Washington on 2 September, reached a deadlock when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to extend restrictions on settlement construction on Palestinian land.

Abbas said he would walk out of talks over the issue.

Attempts by US envoy George Mitchell to overcome the impasse have so far failed, despite a series of meetings with Israeli, Palestinian and regional leaders.

Arab League chief Amr Moussa blamed the "very, very negative" Israeli stance for the deadlock.

No action. Only reaction, complaints, and outsourcing of Arab destiny to foreign powers. Nothing has changed since the inception of this ineffective league, itself a group of brutal dictatorships with no respect to human rights or democratic values.

ALL OF THIS IS THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE APPROACH, STATE LINES MUST BE DEFINED BY DECLARATION AND WITH UN INTERVENTION, THEN NEGOTIATE a peace agreement between the 2 states.

A BASEBALL GAME IS STARTED WHEN THE PITCHER THROWS THE BALL.
ABBAS NEEDS TO,UNILATERALLY, DECLARE PA STATE ON 67 BORDERS AND THE UNSC WILL TAKE IT FROM THERE WITH A NEW RESOLUTION PREDICATED ON ITS PREVIOUS RES 242 and 338 and the like to define PA borders, then set a period of 5 months for the parties to negotiate a peace agreement between themselves and at the end of that 5 months establish 2 defined states by the default design or recognise the agreed settlement by a new resolution like 181.

For how long you will keep trying PEACE FOR LAND ?
Do you care about a better life to palestinains or encourage resisting for Arabs Goal ?
Or you let Palestinians to face fact & try to live with Israelis or HAVE THAT WAR & finish this show off

All these are good questions. The only one I would challenge is the border one. Israel has existed without an eastern border for 60 years. Several countries have had border disputes (Ireland/UK), Georgia, Greece/Turkey, etc. This has not affected the statehood. But as the man asked, if none of these work, what purpose doe the PA serve?

The PA is irrelevant without COMPROMISE !!

All PA alternatives have failed, becuase they are NOT REALISTIC !!

IF the PA could compromise, and
- recognized a Jewish state's right to exist,
on borders of 1948 and some of Area C, and
- without being flooded by Arab refugees,

THEN PALESTINE WOULD BE BORN IMMEDIATELY !!!!!

ALAS, the PA will NOT compromise.

UNDER THIS PLAN A CONTINUATION OF THE SETTLEMENT FREEZE WOULD NOT BE NECESSARY BECAUSE MOST BUILDING WOULD AUTOMATICALLY AND VOLUNTARILY BE CURTAILED AS THE RESULT OF THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE SETTLEMENTS, WHICH WOULD ONLY BE DETERMINED BY THE NEGOTIATONS AND RESOLVED IN THE FINAL UN RESOLUTION AT THE END OF THE 5 MONTH PROCESS. IN OTHER WORDS NO JEW WANTS TO INVEST IN PROPERTY THAT MAY END UP AS PALESTINE AS LONG AS THEIR FUTURE IS IN LIMBO.

Abbas is irrelevant if he stops being a servant of israel and it's settlers. His main job is to serve as a security guard for israel and that's why he's getting paid handsomely by the west .This is his main job and once he stops doing that he's last about a day or so in Ramallah.Once a traitor always a triator and will end up as a traitor.
