RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Sources close to the Fatah Central Committee confirmed reports that prominent member Muhammad Dahlan was being investigated, but would not confirm the nature of the accusations being probed.

On Saturday, Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz published a report saying that the Palestinian Authority had questioned men who admitted they were hired by Dahlan to start a militia in the West Bank.

Sources told Ma'an that the day before the report was published, the Central Committee held a meeting to hear the findings of a special committee convened to question Dahlan.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that there were "serious findings and admissions," but said none would be made public until the special committee had time to submit a final report.

According to accounts, Dahlan initially resisted the investigation, but eventually agreed to being questioned and even admitted to some of the accusations, which sources declined to identify.

Dahlan, however, denied the reports, calling them "false and malicious information," which he said was not part of the Fatah Central Committee's Sunday agenda.

The investigation committee, he said, was formed by the party in an effort to dispel the "misunderstanding," because the accusations launched against him "abuse the Palestinians."

Dahlan acused media outlets of poor journalism ethics, adding that since the beginning of the case he committed himself to silence and is following up with the investigation through official channels in the interest of the Fatah party.

what a maroun this is the same guy who tortured thousands in Gaza and ended up losing his "security" grip on gaza becuase he was misusing money which was suppossed to strengthin the PA security forces. Instead he makes disasterous investments in dubia, us ,Jordan and ciaro...then has the nerve to come to the West Bank and attempt to create an armed militia to take power from president abbas.
