Marble pillars discovered in Gaza port

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Around 15 marble pillars have been discovered underwater at Gaza port, the Gaza government Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said Monday.

The ministry said four pillars have been retrieved from the water so far, and that the 4-meter columns date back to the Constantine Empire.

Ministry official Muhammad Khillah said the significance of the port lay in its underwater Roman history.

Many fishermen have reported seeing crowns, pottery and the foundations of buildings when the sea is calm.

The ministry would continue to examine the pillars, Khillah said, and remove them all from the water.

Since Gaza was orignally occupied by the Phillistines, I'm almost ready to wager that the pillars resemble those pillars we see in Greek architecture

After all, the Phillistines were from the Agean (Greek) area of Europe

It is wrong to remove artifacts from their location. A full archaeological investigation by experts should examine, categorize and interpret the found items. Removing the items may lead to damaging the items, and minimizing the historical significance of the find. Watch out for looters.

right!!phillistines ARE greeks.i understanding even the meaning of the word,ask the israelians to tell us the meaning of words jericho or namblus or....jerusalem ,etc, etc. jajaja
