Hundreds in Gaza rally in solidarity with Egypt

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Hundreds of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip rallied Thursday in solidarity with the uprising in Egypt.

Marchers carried banners reading "People want the regime out" and "Down with Hosni Mubarak".

A student group distributed a statement calling on the UN to take action against the regime.

"The massacre being carried out against protesters in Tahrir square warrants a decisive stance," the statement said. It called on the international community to "respond immediately" to the crisis.

Police in Gaza broke up a smaller rally this week as did the Palestinian Authority government in Ramallah.

On Thursday, Human Rights Watch called on the Palestinian Authority to end violence against demonstrators, the latest instance being Wednesday evening in Ramallah.

"The Palestinian Authority should immediately make clear that its ‘state-building’ training of security forces does not include beating peaceful demonstrators," said Sarah Leah Whitson, HRW's Mideast chief.

"The PA should take action against the responsible police officers or the US and EU should find another use for their taxpayers’ money," she added in a statement issued by Human Rights Watch.

Correct me if i am wrong but if the demonstrations are in gaza should the "human rights group" be contacting hamas and not the PA?

After being an independent modern news outlet Maannews has taken a more comfortable position close to the PA and its government. I used to check it on daily basis, but I felt sad after its recent attack on Al Jazeera and its deactivation of readers comments/talkback. Now we dont get the full picture, the above news item has been edited in Arabic edition to remove the criticism of HRW of PA crack on freedoms in Ramallah.

Cone on fellows, use your imagination, there are a lot of tunnels
Instead of smuggling items from Egypt into Gaza, smuggle yourselves out of Gaza, into Egypt and pitch in

The demo is for hammas supporters. They asked them to go out in streets to fool the people after they attacked a similar demonstration for a group of youth in Gaza arresting 10 people including 6 girls.
