GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- The Hamas government in Gaza confirmed Wednesday that it is not suffering from a financial crisis despite the current economic problems affecting the Ramallah based leadership.

The finance minister Aladdin Al-Rafati told Ma’an that the government would continue to pay employee salaries every month as usual.

Salaries will be paid on time and were last paid on June 12, Rafati said in a statement.

The minister denied rumors in Gaza that there was an impending financial crisis, explaining that taxes collected in Gaza amounted to 70 percent of what was needed to pay employees.

"The rest will be provided through voluntary contributions and assistance to the Government," he said.

The Ministry of Finance says that the government pays salaries for more than thirty five thousand military officers and civilians at a value of 61 million shekels [about $20 million] per month.

Israel should help the PA, to become financially independant like Hamas,
by closing-off Areas A/B, like it closed-off Gaza, when the PA totally puts
an end to the Oslo Accords, with their UN Statehood bid in September !!!!

These comments show Israeli contempt for people in need. Israel is not a western Democratic country. It is a theocracy, only people of correct religion get any say in thier government. It murders innocents, ethnically cleanses and steals from the survivors. All the while Israel is complaining how it is a victim of anti semitism.

people in need is always sad! people saying they are in need when it serves the cause of fighting israel and saying all is good when it serves the cause of fighting fatah, is what I was pointing at! p.s. calling israel a theocracy and murderer of innocent is a bit absurd when the alternative is hamas and fatah! p.s.2 I realy dont feel contempt for the palestinian people, I fell sad for them, for their pain and suffering is cynically used by hamas in quest for power
