Analysis: A solution for everyone
Published Wednesday 20/07/2011 00:25

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been ongoing for decades. The climax of the conflict was when the newly born State of Israel expelled about 70 percent of the Palestinian population from their homeland.

After creating facts on the ground, world powers got involved politically. They started advocating a two-state solution. After 63 years and more facts on the ground, even the two-state solution is not applicable without land swaps.

The peace process since Oslo has been a failure because the core of the conflict is not a border dispute. The core of the conflict is the refugees and apartheid rules of the Zionist regime.

The two-state solution is unrealistic. And, let’s be honest, no one wants it.

The right-wing Israelis, the majority of the Israeli community, want all the land of historic Palestine. And it’s morally difficult for Palestinians to give up their rightful claims in the land of their fathers and ancestors. A refugee from Akka is Palestinian because Akka is Palestinian. It’s impossible for that refugee to say otherwise because then he won’t have an identity. He’ll just be an alien.

Politicians say the one-state solution is just a dream and it’s impossible. Most of them can't explain why. The only argument I heard on behalf of that claim is that demographically, it’s impossible for the refugees to return home. There’s no place for them. Let’s remember what’s important here is that humanitarian rights are achieved fully. A political solution should be based on the achievements of the rights -- not the other way around.

There’s a solution - we just have to think outside the box. A one-state solution that would include the historic land of Palestine and what’s now known as Jordan. This solution could be the answer for all the concerned parties in the conflict; the Zionists, the Palestinians, and the Jordanians.

The Jordanian monarchy was established in the early-mid 20th century. After being promised a united Arab kingdom, Abdullah was given a princedom based in Amman. This princedom has evolved to a kingdom due to the influx of Palestinians who were expelled from their homeland. In 1948, Jordan was happy to annex the West Bank to its territories before the disengagement in the 1980s.

The king would not have a problem with a one-state solution that includes both historic Palestine and Jordan if he was still the king. This would have to be an honorary position like in the UK.

As for the Zionists, their dream is to bring all the Jews around the world to the “promised land”. This dream is also shared by the Christian Zionists who strongly influence American foreign policy. This dream has failed and only a minority of the Jews today reside in the Holy Land, so ending the conflict is extremely crucial to this dream.

And the large one-state solution would provide a larger area that will enable the immigration of more Jews without any demographic conflict. Even the area of the current State of Israel poses a challenge to that dream.

But the refugee question is the core of the conflict. Most Palestinian refugees reside in Jordan. Thus, the large one-state solution would solve the issue without posing a demographic threat to the Jewish presence.

With an honorary king ruled by a parliament formed by the residents, equality could be applied to all citizens.

The right of the return would be achieved for all Palestinians. The Jews would be able to immigrate to their “promised land” peacefully, as opposed to the current form without the consent of Palestinians.

A kingdom could be answer for all the parties. The only ones who would not be happy about such a solution are the arms traffickers and warlords. But we can’t make everyone happy.

and all we need to do is give up our democratic country and go to live under a muslim king?! how does that serve all sides? p.s. under jordenian role, after a failed revolt attempt by Palestinians (led by Yasar Arafat!) during "black September" (September 1970) between 2,500 (jordenian version) and 3,400 (palestinian version) palestinians were killed by jordinian army! so I dont even think one state under the king of jordan is good for palestinians or even the people of jordon!!!

I've read the article several times just to make sure that you are actually aware of what you're talking about and suggesting! Palestinians would never settle for such a solution, Palestinians in exile should get back to Palestine not Jordan, that's one. Two, this way we would be assisting the Zionist Israeli's in fulfilling their dream of the Greater Israel, not to mention that, Hello Jordanians have a say in this, and we all know what would the answer be! which is 100% their right!!

4 ) Reality / Check

King Hussein may not have siezed power like Assad and Gadhafi,
but his answer will be the same as Assad's and Gadhafi's !!

He will respond with tanks, just like these dictators, to any other solution, that threatens his power and wealth !!

5 ) "A solution for ANYONE will" / ONLY come from Negotiations
20/07/2011 21:48

"Israel is willing to hold peace talks with the Palestinians immediately",
and Abbas should accept, by INVITING NETANYAHU TO RAMALLAH,
TO at least HEAR WHAT BORDERS HE PUTS ON THE TABLE !!!

This is a solution for no one. Thinking outside the box has been forced on Palestinians for 64 years. More than half their box (54%) was stolen in 1947 by others to give to the Jews, and within two years Israel had stolen a further 26%. That is the core of the conflict, which everything else stems from. And that is why the "promised land" dream is but a mirage that will one day become a nightmare to Israelis.

7 ) THE JORDANIAN KING / WILL DEFINITELY "PASS"
21/07/2011 14:33

Instead, two bi-national states, a Jewish-Israel and an Arab-Palestine,
could confederate:
- both have about a 20% minority of the other's people,
- both want to keep that minority from growing, and
- the more time that passes, the more settlers that will be living,
in what might, one day, become a "Palestine" !!!

Instead of one state in my opinion sc “three-state” approach would be better. There Gaza is returned to Egyptian control and the West Bank in some configuration reverts to Jordanian sovereignty. This solution is pragmatic alternative to dead road maps for next 20 years; it could also be more economically sustainable than other options. More in “The Three-State Option could solve Gaza Conflict” - http://arirusila.wordpress.com/2009/01/06/the-three-state-option-could-solve-gaza-conflict/

9 ) NO Change / Will Come in September
24/07/2011 00:57
( even with a new "Palestine" UN membership )

NO real Palestine will be created on the ground,
NO end to the Occupation,
NO settlement freeze,
NO negotiations, etc. !!!!

NO Change this year, decade, or century,
without a more realistic Palestinian approach, and
without demands for 1967 borders & refugee return !!!

How about including Lebanon as well with its large Christian minority? Something like the EU with open borders and a single currency. Each country/ region (ie Israel, Gaza, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon) would be the equivalent of a State in the United States. But it would be one country with open borders and a single currency. Jerusalem would have an international designation and would be the symbolic capital for all.

We should figure out what to do with our own house, and allow Israel
to do the same, which it will any way, whether we allow it, or NOT !!!

Popular narrative is always one of Denial of Diaspora Jews' right to "Aliya" and support for Palestinian Return. The writer correctly swaps this for a win-win model : "Let all who Wish, Return." Even if interim States remain ethnic-majority Arab or Jewish, one day a Confederation can both elect a federal (secular) president and permit cross-border trans-migration for anybody born locally, who then has "indigenous" rights, whether Arab or Jew.

A basic problem with any 1,2 or 3 state solution has already been made obvious. Even under a "King" Name 1 Muslim country that welcomes Jews. Name one place in Gaza where a Jew will not be murdered for simply being there? Palestinians want right of return to vote themselves into leadership and the expelling of every Jew from the country. Even now there are neighborhoods in Jerusalem where you will die if you are a Jew who has lost there way and ended up there.Too much hate for peace.
