NABLUS (Ma’an) -- An-Najah University in Nablus ranks seventh in a list of the top 100 universities in the Arab world, according to findings published by Spanish public research body CSIC.

An-Najah is ranked as the top Palestinian university and is among the top 5 percent of 22,000 universities worldwide, a study published by the group in July 2011 found.

University President Rami Hamdallah thanked everyone who had contributed to helping An-Najah become one of the region's most prestigious centers of education.

An-Najah offers 74 bachelor degree programs, 42 masters programs and is the only Palestinian university that has a PhD program in chemistry, Hamdallah said during a news conference.

The university will soon have a second PhD program in physics, he added.

Around 8,000 students applied for course in the new academic year but only 4,000 were accepted.

The group that conducted the study, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, or CSIC, is part of the Spanish ministry of education and published rankings for universities across the globe.

Nasser, if thats so then why did it rank number 7? Dont be silly. Sure, the BZU is a good UNI but Najah is better and it keeps getting better (as is BZU). At this time Najah is better than BZU but if the BZU would become better than najah in the future i will be very happy as its a win-win situation. This is something to be proud of regardless of which Palestinian UNI you have studied at as its something good for Palestine as a whole to have high ranking universities. Yad bi Yad ya akhi =)

Our ambition for Najah and Birzeit Universities to rank number one in next years. This is our true wealth, where we should invest our money.

this, and if all middle east could open their borders, make the place a bit safer (stop rocketing each other), install stable economical conditions - then you will attract investors en mass service providers, manufacturing plants... you wont create that alone out of nothing... you need to attract investors from "outside"... so, prepare the conditions for them... with good education you have one step already... keeping taxes and costs of living low, and offer inexpensive labor is another one...

7 ) OMAR / USA

it is not a surprise that a palestinian university would rank 7th among the regions universities. we the palestinians have always lead the way in education and have contributed to the education of rest of arab world. and whether al-najah or birzeit we should be very proud.

Marwan khalaf, you are so right. And to the rest of my bros and sis, i say that yes education is important but at the end of the day you need a military strategy to liberate our occupied land. Do you think the zionist invaders stole palestine by reading books? Of course not, it was with military training and guns.

That's great, we wish to see the palestinian universities in the top of the academic renaking lists, not only the webometric List. This is webometric ranking. It is based univerisity website activities, not the academic level of education. other website gives Birzeit the hieghest rank among the Palestinian Universities: http://www.4icu.org/ps/
