BANGKOK (Ma'an) -- Thailand will support the recognition of Palestine as an independent state at the United Nations in September, PLO member Nabil Shaath said Monday.

Shaath met with officials from the Thai foreign ministry in Bangkok and discussed the Palestinian leadership's efforts to be admitted as a full member of the world body.

The PLO official passed on President Mahmoud Abbas' congratulations to the newly-appointed Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

The new Thai government is set to present its policies to parliament this week and the country's foreign ministry has recommended that recognition of an independent Palestinian state should be on the agenda, Shaath said.

A delegation of Palestinian officials led by Shaath met with the Council of Arab ambassadors in Thailand and discussed the Palestinian strategy for statehood.

Shaath said he asked the Kuwaiti ambassador to Thailand for help in securing UK Prime Minister David Cameron's support for the UN campaign.

The delegation will head to India on Tuesday before attending a meeting in Russia to coordinate the UN bid.

Hopefully, come September, many, many states are going to feel it's in their own best interests to support Palestinian statehood and very, very few are going to feel it's in their own best interests to oppose it. This is, of course, aside from the morality of the question. It is kind of a no-brainer: 'should the Palestinians be allowed to have an independent state in Palestine?'

Bless you Thailand! Please don't be bullied by those that give you aid,to change your mind. All nations, ask yourselves this? Do you condemn military occupations, war crimes, collective punishment, torture, ethnic cleansing, racism, bigotry, colonial expansion, extermination of indigenous peoples,& the use of attrition as long-term torture? If you do,& have suffered too,you must legally, morally, ethically, spiritually, vote YES for Palestine.

As far as Libya goes, it looks like you're getting your wish along with the Libyans opposed to that (fast-fading) regime over there !!! It appears there will soon be no more Moammar Gadhafi !!! Aren't you Americans popping your champagne corks yet ??? So, why don't you make the Palestinians as HAPPY as you !!! ??? Get GOING !!!

3)Yehuda! You do know that the US govt does not represent 300 million Americans?Just as the Israeli Zionist govt does not represent global Jewry,LOL. Informed Americans, who know there is a world outside America, are rooting FOR Palestine, because they are sick to death of Zionist Nazism, like our own US govt now. None speak for the people, democratically any more. Americans stand with victims, only corporations stand with the bullies. UN must vote for Right over Might. Pop the corks :-)

@ 1) Colin Wright / USA, They really already do have a sovereign, independent nation in Palestine. It's called Jordan, the so-called "East Bank" (of the entire, original, Mandatory Palestinian area administered by Great Britain after World War I), even if Jordan and others disagree. The area known as Palestine existed on both sides of the Jordan River. Great Britain then separated the "East Bank," and named it Transjordan (because that area was across the Jordan River). (continued ...)

They simply then applied the name Palestine to all of the remaining "West Bank" area and let the name stay, which it did until 1948-1949. That's why since 1949 until 1967 Jordan controlled the area that it successfully held during what we call our War for Independence (to the Palestinians and Arabs in general, what they call Al- Nakba), the smaller area that is today still called the West Bank.

Thailand will be rewarded for its behavior by an increased Islamic insurgency supported by Hamas in its south. More monks will be killed. More thais will be driven out as part of the jihad. ANd this will be the reward for dhimmitizing itself at the UN
