QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Settlers threw rocks at a Palestinian car on a main road east of Qalqiliya on Monday, injuring three people including a toddler, the driver of the vehicle said.

Adnan Suwwan told Ma'an that he was traveling back from al-Nabi Elias village with his family when a group of settlers stopped the car and started throwing stones at the vehicle, smashing the windshield.

“It was only God’s mercy that prevented a disaster after a huge stone penetrated the windshield,” Suwwan said, adding that Israeli military patrols were in the area but did not intervene.

The family was taken to hospital by the Palestinian Red Crescent and treated for light injuries.

Settler attacks in the West Bank against Palestinians are extremely common. One of the Israeli army's tasks in the West Bank is to protect settlers, and they rarely intervene to prevent attacks on Palestinians.

The Israeli legal system also provides scant protection for Palestinian victims of settler violence.

Annual figures compiled by the Israeli rights group Yesh Din have repeatedly shown that nine out of 10 police investigations about settler crimes fail to lead to a prosecution.

Settler-related incidents resulting in Palestinian injuries and damage to property are up more than 50 percent this year, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, which documents violence in the West Bank and Gaza.

ronen- who are you talking to? are you accusing this innocent palestinian family of teaching crazed jewish fundamentalists how to steal other people's land and try to chase them of off it? talk about blaming the victim. if any 'side' learned violence and terror from the other, it was the palestinian resistance fighters who learned it from the zionist terrorists who blew up hotels and kidnapped british soldiers during the mandate period.

#3 you leftists teach yourselves a very one sided fantasy history. by the time of the fallout between the jews and the british the land was swarming with arab fedayin. and the british? - handed all their weapons to the arabs.
your uninformed opinion is relevant here just like my would be on the ethiopua eritrea conflict. besides, as an american, whatever you told me in your comment, you can tell yourself a million times. julia too

Aggravated assault, destruction of property, possibly false imprisonment (in their vehicle) and attempted murder... and Ronen countenances it all. This is the flip side of the occupation, the sort of illness the average Israeli is prone to because of the long-standing abuse of another people. Like the "Prisoner's Dilemma", the ones in power must dehumanize the "others" to continue their abuse, which inevitably leads to further and worse abuses.

If the Palestinians and Jews had been reversed, the nearby soldiers probably would've shot the Palestinians. Sad but true....

The most important point is that Israeli soldiers refuse to protect Palestinians from these attacks. This leaves the Palestinians with no palatable alternative but to take arms into their own hands. What else are they supposed to do? Flee into the desert?

Re Ronen #1, #4. It's always morbidly fascinating to see the actions Israel-lovers will actually defend. The headline here was 'Settlers attack family near Qalqiliya, injuring toddler.' I wonder what Ronen would balk at defending? How about 'Settlers attack family near Qalqiliya, eat toddler'? Think Ronen could still come through?

To Ronen #4 'you leftists teach yourselves a very one sided fantasy history. ' What two sides are there? The Zionists, having cooked up a demonstrably false pseudo-historical fantasy, descended on a perfectly inoffensive people, proceeded to violently dispossess them, and oppress and persecute them to this day. By the way, I am emphatically not leftist in several respects. But I know evil when I see it.

Refer vandals/hillyouth to Pal Archery Program...Lay out The [Rand Corp.] ARC, transport boulevards, Pal Towns/Cities. IL gets Rtes 1 East, 443, 5 to Ariel. A few others to reach gated communities left to IL. Boundries betwe en IL and Palestine are composed of straightline 'tangents' which become utility easements. Temple Miount accessible to Jews, Christians, Muslim-- in designated venues for each ONLY for first few years [it can be done]. Atarot Arpt to Pals. Most Pals leave Jewrusalem...Aaron
