JENIN (Ma'an) -- Israel has canceled the pardon of a former Fatah militant leader in Jenin and instructed him to hand himself in to the Palestinian Authority, he told Ma'an on Thursday.

Zakaria Zubeidi, who headed the Al-Aqsa Brigades during the second intifada and set up The Freedom Theater in Jenin, said he had stuck to all the conditions of the amnesty deal granted him by Israel three years ago.

Israel informed Palestinian Authority security forces on Thursday that Zubeidi's pardon had been revoked, and that Israeli forces would detain him if he did not turn himself in, Zubeidi told Ma'an.

An Israeli military spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter.

Zubeidi established the ground-breaking theater in Jenin refugee camp in 2006 with Juliano Mer-Khamis, who was shot dead outside the venue in April.

He led the Fatah-affiliated brigades during some of the fiercest fighting of the intifada, or uprising, and was wanted by Israel for many years before authorities granted pardons to hundreds of Fatah militants in 2007.

And like a "good lil" Israeli-proxy in West Bank, the PA will say,"Yes Sir! Herr Israel,Sieg Heil"!While the real terrorist, which should be detained by,or surrender itself to,the ICC,is Israel,to answer for 6 decades of WAR CRIMES,crimes against the peace,& crimes against humanity,as well as espionage against USA & lying to our USA,to aid & abett illegal invasions/occupations!But,go on Abbas! Click ur heels, salute the Star of David flag & follow your Zionist orders?Uber arseholes!

Typical Israeli rules to detain ordinary palestinians. On one hand he is pardoned, on the other he is asked to hand himself in. No excuse given except that his pardon is cancelled. Israeli's must be planning another strike or war, thus using palestinians in the next priosner swap. Israelis are digging their own grave with such acts of terror against innocent palestinians. They haven't got any brains and just read on Haaretz that over 100 Israeli Ambassdors had grim faces when met in Jeruslem.

It's not up to Israel what he does in his own land. Israeli Zionists need to back off. Should the Palestinian Authority then go after all the Zionist Israelis who are participated in attacks & killings of children in West Bank towns?? I think so.

Hell, if they arrested jesus befor and had detained and spend one night in jail befor handing over to the romans after interrogating him . So, when they found out that he was not their messiah , they haded him over the romans, they did not pardon him despite his religous status. I do nont really know how they would ever keep a promise. They were in denail , they are in denaill, and will parish in denail.

On what basis? Or is it old-fashioned to give a reason for detaining people?

Zubeidi disclosed that his amnesty agreement was directly with the PA - not Israel. So does this mean that the PA has turned on him and using Israeli detention as a threat to control him? It's also worth noting that both Zubeidi's brother and uncle have been detained recently in addition to several actors, staff, and board members of the Freedom Theatre.

Zubeidi didn't set up the theatre, that was Arna and then her son Juliano, but he was on the board of directors if I recall correctly...

Arna, The original theater created by Arna & Juliano Mer Khamis was called the Stone Theater. Zubeidi's mother donated space & Zakaria was a student. This theater closed when Arna died. Zakaria Zubeidi is indeed one of the cofounders of the Freedom Theater along with Juliano Mer Khamis & Jonathan Stanczak.
