GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The integration of Islamic Jihad and Hamas is a legitimate demand and not a political tactic, Jihad leader Khader Habib said Wednesday of efforts to bridge gaps between the movements.

Habib said like-minded Islamist groups should unite across the world, not only in Palestine where Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders this month announced their intention to unify the Palestinian resistance forces.

Speaking at an Islamic Union meeting in Gaza, Habib said Islamic Jihad suffered dearly under the rivalry between Fatah and Hamas. The movement has "spared no effort" to reconcile the parties, he said.

He added that revolutions across the Arab world would have a positive impact on the Palestinian cause, echoing remarks spoken by the premier of the Gaza government a week earlier.

That official, Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas, initiated an "in-depth dialogue" between the groups that Islamic Jihad leaders say will strengthen their positions in light of Islamist parties' successes over the past year.

Muhammad al-Hindi, another Jihad official based in Gaza, said at the time that closer cooperation would help give the uprisings across the Arab world a more "Islamic dimension."

The goal of uniting all Palestinian resistance forces is just 1 main reason why we never should have left Gaza. We could maintain the blockade forever but that would be stupid and it only strengthens the resistance. So eventually the blockade will end. Now, if that happened today AND we totally withdrew to the pre-Al Naksa (pre-Jun., 1967) borders, would Palestinian resistance go away ??? ... Answer: Hell, NO ... The Palestinian rivalries would continue and effective abatement of (cont.)

of terror and resistance would fail. If Arafat were alive today, even he would understand this. In 2002, with Arafat preaching peace, we intercepted tons of weaponry bound for Gaza in the Red Sea (the Karine-A ship). In 2009, we intercepted more tons of weapons [destined, we believed, for Hezbollah and (eventually ?) to Hamas]. Just last year (Mar., 2011), we seized more tons of weapons headed for Gaza (the Victoria ship). So, if Palestinian resistance were united, what stake would (cont.)

we have in making peace with those Palestinian factions who say ALL of (Ottoman Empire) Palestine is Palestine forever ??? ... (and remember, the partition idea did NOT begin with 1947 U.N. Partition Plan; it began with 1937 Peel Commission Partition Plan). Now (Islamic Jihad) Habib and (Hamas) Haniyeh say the Arab Spring will positively effect greater unified resistance. Hell, with all the crap going on in Syria, they may as well open ultimate unification dialogue with Hezbollah. GOOD WORK.

The Palestinians maybe would not have agreed to peace in 1948 but I tell you for sure Israel never offered peace in 1948. The fighting which took place was completely defensive on the Palestinian side. There was no real ability to fight the Haganah because the Palestinians were almost unarmed. Israel can be very proud to have defeated a civilian population with only militias. The Palestinians fought bravely. The israelis fought like cowards! Ethnic cleansing, human shields were israels tactics.

I completely agree with you Carlos, but that's in the past now. Now they [Palestinians] should work on self-reconciliation and peace with Israel. 'Cause Israel is a fact - they cannot fight against it.

Whether Fatah or Hamas is responsible for the lack of Unity:

1- Fatah & Hamas must hold themselves responsible
for the failure to create a Palestinian state, and accept that
UNLESS TALKS SUCCEED PALESTINE WILL NEVER EXIST, and

2- Since Israel will not surrender to either their "settlement freeze"
or their "return all Palestinian land" demands, Fatah & Hamas must surrender to Israel's "Talks Without Pre-conditions" demand,
to ever have any chance of creating a Palestine !!
