RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Authority minister of prisoners affairs said Tuesday that Israel intends to release hunger striking prisoner Khader Adnan after his current administrative detention term.

In return, Adnan agreed to end his strike, according to Issa Qaraqe, the prisoners minister. The term will end April 17, he said.

Adnan has not confirmed he intends to end the hunger strike, but prisoners rights group Addameer said one of Adnan's lawyers negotiated a deal with the Israeli military prosecutor freeing him on April 17 instead of in May 8.

He also received guarantees the term will not be extended, the group said.

Addameer lawyer Samer Samaan is "actively working to gain permission to visit Khader to confirm whether or not he will continue with his hunger strike," the rights group said in a statement.

"Addameer’s main concern remains Khader’s health ... Whether or not Khader continues his hunger strike, he must receive proper arrangements for observing his health condition," the group said.

Israel's Justice Ministry confirmed the deal to end the strike.

"There is a deal. (Khader Adnan) will stop his hunger strike. They will not extend his administrative detention and he will be free on April 17," an Israeli Justice Ministry spokeswoman told Reuters.

A High Court of Justice session was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but it was canceled upon the announcement of an agreement.

It doesn't make any sense. How can Palestinians trust Israeli's who continue to recapture prisoners who were released as part of Shalit swap deal? If Adnan was captured without any reason then he should be released immediatly NOT in APRIL. Israeli's are using delaying tactics so that pressure is taken away from them till April. When April comes they will use another excuse, mark my words.

The world is on your side, keep it up, we both need inspiration from each other, the haters gone to hate. Better later to the cause then never. South Africa and Ireland overcame , Palestinian can do and will do it too.

Maybe I am wrong but here is the situation that had started from a long time. YOU WONT OK FOLLOW WHAT I WONT IF NOT I HAVE AN EXCUSE. What should we do as Palestinians. The power is in hand of Israel besides the stupid PEOPLE in both sides of Hamas and Palestinian authority in West Bank and Gaza. I believe in cooperation inside first between Palestinians and then with Israels

To Malone #6: '...this is a non story !!' In other words, you know perfectly well it's another nail in Israel's coffin and wish to deny it. I've learned to translate Zionist.

Of course, this IS Israel. They could simply renege on their promise.

I'm by no means averse to violence as a tactic -- but note that it's questionable if Adnan accomplished more with the various bombings he may have been involved with than he did with this strike. Whatever works.

We need to complain loud and hard about the arrest and detention of Bassem Tamimi from Nabi Saleh. He is a non violent protest leader who was arrested for nothing. israel is terror. israel murdered Furkan Dogan a US citizen last year on the Mavi Marmara and 8 Turks. We remember! We will boycott Divest and Sanction israel.

@11: what you mean is that you are not averse to palestinians using violence as a tactic and thereby killing and getting themselves killed. But you don't put yourself in harms way. Free with others blood.

6 ) Malone / Hfx - I agree. The notion that someone can throw a childish tantrum by refusing to eat his food is goofy. If someone wants to commit suicide and do it peacefully then who are we to stop him. Makes you wonder, what if Gilad refused to eat? Would they have released him?

No criminal charges, no visits by lawyers, no family visits; stay classy Israel.

To Business #13 '@11: what you mean is that you are not averse to palestinians using violence as a tactic and thereby killing and getting themselves killed. But you don't put yourself in harms way. Free with others blood.' Not as free as Israelis are with Palestinian blood -- or Palestinian land. I may not be a fighter -- but at least I'm not a thief. Nor a murderer, nor a liar.
