BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- PLO Executive Committee member Ghassan al-Shaka told Ma'an late Tuesday President Mahmoud Abbas will not threaten to dismantle the Palestinian Authority in a forthcoming communique to Israel.

Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Monday that Abbas will warn if Israel does not stop settlement building, release Palestinian prisoners, and recognize two states on 1967 borders, the PA will demand international law be applied in the West Bank, implying handing control to Israel.

The PA was set up as a state-in-waiting 17 years ago but is now seen by critics as compromised body that eases the burden of occupation for Israel.

Al-Shaka, who is also a Fatah Central Committee member, called the report in Haaretz "fabrication," and said the president's message to Israel, international leaders, and the Middle East Quartet will instead run through the political progress of negotiations from their very start, to demonstrate that the PLO has kept its commitments, while Israel has broken them.

Muhammad Al-Madani, another member of Fatah Central Committee, also said the report was baseless.

"It is unbelievable that Israel, the side responsible for impeding and foiling the peace process, disseminates information about dismantling the PA," he said.

Al-Shaka said Arab countries were behind Palestine's decision to refuse negotiations with Israel until settlement expansion on Palestinian land is stopped, and insisted Abbas will never return to talks without this Israeli guarantee.

Palestinian and Israeli negotiators met for five rounds of exploratory talks in Jordan during January, but the timeframe set by the international Quartet passed at the end of the month without agreement.

"The ball is now in Israel’s court," al-Shaka said.

#1 You're right, I am certainly not listening to this pathetic, colorless "leader" of the Fatah gang of thugs. Everything that comes out of his mouth is hot air. I am certainly looking forward to a charismatic Palestinian leader who knows how to say NO to Zionists and the Americans. Tibi, first time we agree on anything!

'Dismantle'?But Abu Mazen? You'd have to give ALL your money back,to Israel,( your offshore bank account)that U & the PA,have been paid, for being Zionism's PROXY in the W/B,with Fatah acting as Zionist Arab thugs.Maybe Fatah is mistavreem after all? The PA/Fatah are only there to create an image, designed by Zionists,to make it LOOK like Israel is negotiating, while Zionist lebensraum, expansion continues, thru' divide&rule & exterminates ARAB PALESTINIANS &their nation!

After spending 2 years living in the defacto capital of the PA Ramallah I took a census and the mass majority of Palestinian's I have interviewed would perer Israeli rule over that of the despotic corrupt PA.The Palestinian people watch on as Abu Mazan and his gang steal 99% of incoming International Aid fund's and spend it lavishly on multi million dollar mansion's and lavish car's.Drive by any PA offcial mansion and you will see 7 top of the line Land Crusers and BMWs.The PA has to go!

Abbas is the leaders of nothing but a 9-letter word, "Palestine",
and he will remain just that, until he reaches an agreement with Israel.

Abbas and the PA have been corrupted by power. I don't blame especially blame them for that -- but to at least some extent, they can only retain what wealth and status they have by serving as Quislings for Israel. They face the same situation the members of the 'Judenraten' the Germans set up in the Jewish ghettos of Eastern Europe used to face. Whatever their intentions, they will wind up serving the interests of the oppressor.

...and this is nowhere plainer than in the fact that Israel acquiesced in the choice of Abbas as leader of the PA. I don't doubt he is a good man -- but he is a conciliator rather than a fighter, and that's what Israel wants. Someone who will never fight, no matter what they do. He's in the wrong place, at the wrong time. He serves as a tool of Israel. He can't help it. He does bear a striking resemblance to the figures the Germans used to choose to administer the ghettos.
