GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Agricultural producers in the Gaza Strip are struggling with ongoing power cuts since the advent of a fuel-supply crisis last month.

Dozens of farms have reported poultry dying in their thousands as heating systems fail, and veterinary medicines have spoiled as refrigeration is cut off.

Produce that also depends on refrigeration has been damaged due to power cuts, with potato farmers saying they have dumped thousands of tons of potatoes.

Farmer Hamdi Jirjawi told Ma'an the failure of his 570-ton potato crop cost him 798, 000 shekels, so he is unable to pay workers' wages.

Meanwhile, high demand and low supplies has caused a price spike in agricultural produce.

Since Egypt sought an alternative route for fuel supplies to the underground tunnel network in mid-February, Gaza has faced up to 18-hour power cuts each day.

Officials in Gaza and Abbas' Palestinian Authority say they have reached a deal with Egypt to bring fuel via the Rafah crossing to resolve the crisis.

Gazans do know about greenhouse danger threatening the Earth - that is why they do not use fossil fuel like oil and gas. Go green Gaza.
Carine - agree: FIFA would be really happy to have palestinians as a member. And if England in the same group with Palestine they could make to the World Cup.

No Ma'an! Agriculture is not 'failing due to Gaza power crisis'! Palestine is being wiped off the map,due to COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT by an ILLEGAL Isareli OCCUPATION lasting since 1967,political/ideological rabid Zionism, since 1935,& an illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza, since 2006-7,for voting democratically! Gaza is only one local area with 1.6 MILLION people, being punished for NOT being Jews or pro-Zionist. The real "power crisis' is 6 MILLION Palestinian POW's or displaced refugees!

Yes "AGRICULTURE is failing, not due Gaza power crisis", but instead it IS FAILING DUE TO THE HAMAS GOVERNMENT, which insists upon maintining a state of war with Israel !!

Gaza Electricity Crisis is Political! The electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip has continued for a number of months, with residents receiving electricity for only 6 hours daily. What is the reason for this suffering? It seems that the residents of Gaza are suffering yet again due to their leaders’ politics. The electricity sector in Gaza is mixed with political decisions, and the result is a lack of electricity, raising the anger of the population.

how is it the only one blaming Hamas for this are Israel and the PEOPLE OF GAZA (last survey said almost 50% of them blame hamas and only about 20% blame israel) while palestinians in west bank and palestinian supporters (all of them not really seeing with their own eyes whats happening in gaza) blame israel?

The British wiped their "mandate" off the map by leaving, and
NO independant "Palestine" was ever on any map, to be "wiped off",
but let's say your correct, and that "Palestine" is being erased.

You and the Arab world need to realize, that saying things, like
"COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT, ILLEGAL, OCCUPATION, rabid Zionism, etc."
will NOT prevent "Palestine" from being erased, and only gets in the way
of things that could actually help, like compromise and negotiations !!

Mel, Rob...get a life, will ya? I hope you're posting comments on Egyptian news websites to protest the Egyptian blockade of Gaza. Yes, Mel and Robert, Gaza has a border with Egypt, and they can get all the fuel they want and ship their goods there too. However, it is not Israel but Egypt that is choking Gaza. You are not helping a single Palestinian by posting your silly comments here, or pretending to boycott Israel. Instead, you should tell the Palestinians to return to negotiations.

Return to negotiations on what terms exactly? On Israel's terms. No thanks. If that's the case Palestinian's will achieve nothing more than they are achieving now. Israel can send its settlers back to where they came from thus removing all settlements. Then negotiations would make more sense. Cohen try telling your friend Bebe to quit building on occ. land that doesn't belong to people like yourself. Settle somewhere else like in the atlantic ocean or wherever. Settlers find your way back home!
