GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli planes dropped pamphlets in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday morning, warning Palestinians not to enter a no-go zone on its southern border.

The leaflets, signed by Israeli forces general command, include a map of the zone, a Ma'an correspondent said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said the leaflets were dropped in several locations, and "reiterated to the citizens of the Gaza Strip to keep a 300-meter distance," from the border area.

Israeli soldiers "will operate in accordance with the rules of engagement, and will use live fire if they need when the security fence is approached," the leaflet warned, according to the spokeswoman.

It also warned against "cooperation with terror organizations, involvement in violent riots, and approaching the security fence," she said.

The Israeli army said soldiers shot dead a Palestinian they suspected of trying to plant explosives beneath a fence at the border with Gaza late on Saturday.

"It should be noted that during the past week, (Israeli) soldiers uncovered three explosive devices adjacent to the security fence in the Gaza Strip. All three devices were diffused in a controlled manner," an army statement said Sunday.

None of the armed groups in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip claimed responsibility for the alleged incident.

The killing of the unidentified Palestinian on Saturday came a day after troops at the border shot dead one person and injured over 30 others as protesters marked the Land Day anniversary.

Mahmoud Zakot, 20, was shot and killed near the Erez crossing, a medical official said. Thirty-one others were injured in that incident and in Khan Younis, six people were hospitalized.

Medics said the Israeli army used live fire to prevent protesters from approaching the border.

What feckin' 'Rules of Engagement'; The prohibition of walking on your own diminished share of your own country? Very shortly, this problem is going to come to a head and Israel will suffer greatly. I am not saying that Israel will not reciprocate that punishment, but, in the end, will they consider it worth it? Mass emigration from Israel and an end to jews returning to their mythical homeland. Israel. Beware of that which is coming.

I agree #1 and let's hope Israeli officials will someday be prosecuted for war crimes they have committed. I fear there will be a long list. How is it that a people who have experienced massive persecution first hand can now live with inflicting those same persecutions on others?

Like the Nazi's dropping threats on the humans they considered as 'unter menchen'? Not even a US-style glorious Berlin Airlift? Or US food rations dropped over the Nazi victims,to let them know they weren't forgotten? Eh Obama? The civilians of POW Camp Gaza, should gather all the leaflets up,make a giant ART collage &present it to the art world as the "heart" of 1/2 a century of Zionist occupation.Threats!Bombs!Hate!Threats!Bombs!Hate! That's all Zionist 'rules of engagement'are "good" for?

Aza is ruled by Hamas which is in a state of war with Israel. Don't be idiots. Under the rules of war this is more than allowed. Hamas wants the genocidal destruction of Israel, sorry, they are so lucky all we say is stay a few meters away from the fence. And if they quit planting explosives on the fence, we probably would drop that. Give it up haters, just because the UK has decided to commit suicide does not mean we are going to.

#5. Hamas may WANT the genocidal destruction of Israel but the numbers show quite clearly that Israel is ACHIEVING the genocidal destruction of the Palestinians. Also, staying a few metres from the wall is NOT all you ask. I find your remarks misleading and dishonest.
