16 prisoners remain in solitary confinement.
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli prison authorities moved two prisoners out of solitary confinement on Thursday, the Prisoners Society said.

Mahmoud Issa, who has been in isolation for 13 years, and Waleed Ali were moved out of their cells by Israel's prison administration.

"We applaud the prison administration's decision to release the two detainees out of solitary confinement, in particular Mahmoud Issa," the head of the Prisoners' Society Qadura Fares told Ma'an.

Both men are imprisoned in Ramla jail.

Sixteen prisoners are now being held in solitary confinement, Fares said.

Hundreds of Palestinians in Israeli jails joined a group of hunger-strikers on April 17 protesting detention without charge, solitary confinement, restrictive visiting rights, and limited access to educational materials.

Around 2,000 are now taking part in the strike, rights groups say.

On Wednesday, protesters blocked the entrance to the UN office in Ramallah slamming the world body for its failure to intervene to save the hunger strikers.

A similar protest took place on Thursday outside the offices of the Red Crescent.

What's to applaud, Mr Fares? After 13 years in isolation, the man must surely be suffering the most awful psychological problems! Being the head of the Prisoner's Society, I hope you make sure he gets the proper treatment he will surely need for the foreseeable future.

Issa is serving 3 life sentences for the kidnapping and murder of Israeli soldiers. Not "freedom fighting" but war crimes (no, Palestinians are not allowed to murder soldiers they kidnap - they have to hold them under rules of the Geneva Convention). He is a war criminal. Palestinians do not have the right to kill Israelis, especially after they signed documents (Oslo, for example) saying they would not. He is a convict who will die in prison for his crimes.

Brian I think Israel should also pay for their war crimes! They went against every law that has ever been written. Israelis have no right to kill Palestinians nor lock them up for no reason. Its so funny how you talk about rules when Israel is the one that's breaking them!

#3 You've got some nerve - the biggest perpetrator of war crimes is your very own Israel. Did they not also sign documents full of promises? Don't be so pious Brian, your halo is slipping - and get out of that bubble you're living in, your side is the worst offender when it comes to breaking promises. And yes, Issa will most likely die in prison, but that doesn't mean he should be treated like a sub-human in the meantime.
