Aziz Dweik was held for six months in administrative detention.
HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Egyptian president Muhammad Mursi on Saturday telephoned speaker of the Palestinian parliament Aziz Dweik to congratulate him on being freed from an Israeli jail.

Happy with the congratulation from the president of the largest and most influential Arab country, Dweik said that the call represented the post-Arab Spring era. It is the outcome of having elected presidents and leaders, he added.

"It was an honor to receive a phone call from the president of Egypt Dr. Muhammad Mursi who checked up on my health and congratulated me on being freed from the occupation’s jails. He also congratulated me on Ramadan and prayed to God to bring the Palestinian people all the good," Dweik said.

He added that a real window of hope has been opened and the Palestinians should take advantage of that and ignore controversial and unresolved matters.

"We should get past disputed matters and instead trust the major Palestinian parties of Fatah and Hamas. Disagreement between the Palestinians is painful for our brothers, and in the PLC (parliament) we keep exerting efforts to convince Hamas and Fatah to resume reconciliation very quickly."
