TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israel plans to demolish eight villages in the West Bank to use the land for Israeli army training grounds, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported Monday.

Israel's High Court of Justice heard Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak's demolition plans on Sunday. Residents of the south Hebron villages will be allowed to access their land for farming on weekends and Jewish holidays, and during two one-month periods each year, when the Israeli army is not training in the area, Haaretz reported.

Israel regards the 1,500 residents of Khirbet al-Majaz, Khirbet al-Tabban, Sfai, Khirbet al-Fakheit, Halaweh, Mirkez, Jinba, and Kharoubeh as squatters, although the villages predate the establishment of the state of Israel by over 100 years, the report said.

Previous evacuation orders issued against the villages were frozen by Israel's High Court of Justice.

In 1999, over 700 residents were evicted due to "illegal residence in a firing zone" and Israeli forces confiscated property and demolished buildings and wells.

Israel's High Court issued an interim injunction, and Israeli forces allowed named petitioners to return but not their relatives. Meanwhile, many residents had nothing to return to.

Israel on Sunday claimed that an investigation conducted in 2000 found there were no permanent residents in the area. It claims that most villagers have permanent homes in Yatta, a nearby town.

Israel also says villagers have expanded their homes and structures in the villages illegally in recent years.

If Maan would report the situation honestly, it would say that LIVING IN NEARBY CAVES "predates the establishment of the state of Israel".
"The villages" were built much later, and without permits, just like today,
the villages try to expand without permits, but since the Oslo Accords, with Israel being awarded full control of the Region, all new construction clearly needs an Israeli permit, and past unpermitted construction is at risk too !!!

What a joke. Israel now steals land based on exactly what investigation? The villages were there before Israel even existed. Illegal structures, look no further that illegal settler terrorist squats who live illegally on Palestinian land. Who, when, and where will stop Israel?

You need NOT Look any further for Justice, or ask where will stop,
since that illegal squatters, whether they are Jews or Arabs, are
both stopped from living illegally on lands they do NOT own !!

Who needs a permit to extend his home? Seriously, code checking is one thing, but to get a permit so I can extend my home is BS. Israel must understand, it's policies will not go far. Palestine is moving forward, and it will be a matter of time before Israel gets a slap on the face to realize that what it's doing is simply BS. No sane, reasonable, rational human being, who has the interest of both Israel and Palestine in mind would condone Israeli current BS. Yes, the villages were there before.

Holocaust in a slow-motion: State of Israel has been built over the cleansing of Palestine & Palestinian people. If Jews bless the Zionist occupation over the Land of Palestine, they should bless the Nazi occupation in different European countries during Hitler’s time as well. ------DO NOT SERVER 2-gods-----

The Land was Never "Palestine", so it remains "Disputed" lands,
and if Jewish settlers must get permits for their expansions,
then Arab settlers must also get permits for their expansions,
which is NOT a "Holocaust of Palestine in a slow-motion",
but a "Palestine" stuck as it is - A Non-State !!!

#4, #7 You really should think up a name (like Tibi/Tubas) because these anonymous posts make you look like a paid hasbarist who waits for the memo with today's "talking points". What's that? You ARE a paid hasbarist who waits for the memo with today's "talking points". Ignore this then.

I've already commented on this. So go read my comments to it in a related news story: "Settlers seize over 50 dunams of land across West Bank." Look for the title in the "Latest News" section in (as of now) the middle of the Ma'an News Agency homepage.

#7: the land was neither "Israel" before 1948. These villages were there before that. There also never were "India" in the land now called the United Staes of America, but there still were people some like to call "Indians" living in the land. There also is people called "Palestinians" and there have been for centuries. Like it or not.

Stealing and then lying to cover the theft, the ethnic cleansing, the crimes against humanity - do they really think decent human beings believe the propaganda? Palestine will be free.

Possibly it is a land theft, but Israel has rights too in Area C, but Definitely it is Neither "ethnic cleansing", Nor "crimes against humanity", or someone would be able to produce the real bodies & mass-graves, so realistically you should seriously consider ending both such transparent "lying", and obvious "fantasy" of "Palestine will be free" !!!

#13 Joachim - OK, so we know you're absolutely delighted for the IOF to acquire yet another illegal training ground outside of their own country by demolishing more Palestinian villages - now then, what are your thoughts for those Palestinian villagers who are going to lose their homes, homes which pre-date Israel by over 100 years?

#14 ''Palestine will be free''. Yes it is free, it is called Jordan.

#17: Jordan is Jordan, not Palestine. That's why it is called Jordan. Simple. Palestine is a state for Palestinians, not yet established, but so what? Jews were dreaming about "the state of Israel" for about 2000 years, and now they have it. Palestinians hopefully will also have their state one day. Maybe after another 2000 years. But as the Jews deserve their own state, so does the Palestinians. What is so hard to understand in this?
