BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Authority security forces detained the brother of a detainee on hunger strike in an Israeli jail before dawn Monday, the prisoner rights group Addameer said.

Around 30 PA preventative security officers detained Saleh Safadi, 30, during a raid on his home in Nablus at 3 a.m. on Monday, Addameer told Ma'an.

He was taken to Jenaid prison and was not given any reason for the arrest, Addameer said, adding that Saleh had spent one year in an Israeli jail without charge or trial in 2007.

Saleh Safadi's brother Hassan entered his 48th day of renewed hunger strike in an Israeli prison on Tuesday. In May, he ended a previous 71 day hunger strike.

Hassan Safadi went on hunger strike in protest over his administrative detention, without charge or trial, and renewed his protest after his detention was renewed on June 21, a week before he was due to be released.

Hassan and Saleh's brother Fareed was killed by Israeli forces in 1996. Their mother, 62, who suffers from heart problems, returned home on Monday after spending a week in hospital. The family has not been allowed to visit Hassan since his arrest in June 2011.

"Hassan has been consistently targeted for arrest and administrative detention by Israeli authorities. No charges have ever been brought against him. These previous arrests date back to the mid 1990s and range from periods of a few months to a number of years," Addameer says.

Hassan has also been detained by PA forces, and spent 45 days in the PA's Jenaid prison in 2011. He was released by the PA one week before he was detained by Israel.
