NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Several members of the Palestinian police force were injured on Monday during protests in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, a Ma'an correspondent said.

Dozens of protestors threw rocks and glass bottles at a police station in Nablus, lightly injuring a number of police and passersby.

The PA called on dozens of security force members to prevent a raid on the police station and said they have not used force against protestors.

The people causing damage in Nablus are no more than 100 or 200 people out of the population of over 100,000, Nablus officials said.

Large numbers of people blocked traffic with burning tires and trash cans and prevented people from passing, witnesses told Ma'an.

Demonstrations erupted across the West Bank over the past week, protesting the rising prices of basic commodities. The price of fuel was increased by five percent after key suppliers in Israel hiked their charges.

An onlooker in Bethlehem, Muhammad Riziq, said that seeing streets empty except for rocks and burning tires brought back memories of the first Palestinian intifada in the late 1980s.
