Palestinian leaders call for 'liberation' from Oslo Accords

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian leaders on Thursday called for release from the Oslo Accords, on the 19th anniversary of the signing of the agreements.

The accords, signed Sept. 13, 1993, were meant to be an interim agreement leading to a final peace agreement and an independent Palestinian state within five years.

Palestinian National Initiative leader Mustafa Barghouti said the accords turned out to be "a transition to nothing," and had been used as a cover by Israel "to consolidate a system of apartheid."

"We as Palestinians need to liberate ourselves from the terrible conditions of the agreement," through popular resistance, national unity and boycott, divestment and sanctions, Barghouti told Ma'an.

The Palestinian side has committed to the agreement while Israel selectively implements the accords to its benefit, Barghouti said, adding that 19 years on the concept of the two-state solution was at risk due to Israeli settlement building.

Fatah leader Mahmoud al-Aloul on Thursday called on the PA to abolish the Oslo Accords as Israel had refused to commit to its obligations and instead continued land grabs and settlement expansion in the West Bank.

Negotiations toward a final peace agreement won't succeed because Israel doesn't want peace, al-Aloul added.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine on Thursday also called on the PA to disengage from all agreements with Israel, and be free of political and economic restrictions imposed by the Oslo Accords.

The Ramallah government should end security coordination with Israel and implement national unity, the leftist faction said in a statement.

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat noted Israel's failure to abide by its signed commitments, in a statement marking the anniversary.

"Most of the Israeli settlements and their associated infrastructure have been built during the past 19 years. The number of settlers has more than doubled during this time, while forced displacement, home demolitions, ID revocations and land confiscations continue to be a daily reality in Palestine."

Erekat added: "The interim agreements were supposed to last for five years. But what we see two decades later is apartheid rather than freedom and independence."

Erekat blamed the international community for failing to hold Israel accountable for its violations.

"Our hope for peace and justice has been destroyed by Israeli bulldozers and a culture of racism and hatred espoused within Israeli society. This horrific reality has been facilitated by the immunity which Israel has been granted by the international community."

The Oslo Accords have been the focus of demonstrations across the West Bank in September. Protesters angry at rising prices complained that the economic sections of the treaty have been implemented by Israel selectively and mostly to its benefit, a position shared by UN agencies and economists.

"Liberation from Oslo Accords" also means:
- a return of the PLO leaders to the countries (Tunisia, etc.), and
- a surrender of the "state-building" that Oslo allowed too, and
- Life in Ramallah can return to becoming more like life in Gaza !!!

U can negate the Oslo"discords"& its whole stinky 'Paris' ruse,by going to the ICC/UNGA showing how 'Oslo' was nothing than a PONZI SCHEME/RUSE to increase Jewish-only colonies on OCCUPIED/stolen Arab land(war crime)& how USG,or Israel, never meant to negotiate a 'peace plan',only a unilateral 'take the whole piece' plan. USG can never be a FAIR BROKER while it remains BIASED toward Zionism&Israel!Oslo died years ago!Bury it & UNITE as nationals,in a coalition PNC,&take it to UNGA/ICC brokers!

Palestinian leaders should call for 'liberation' from Israels occupation of Palestine, instead of "libration " of Oslo accords.

OK you convinced everybody - it did not work out. Go ahead and cancel Oslo accord and Paris protocol. You like boycott - go ahead and start it. Start from boycotting Israeli currency, electricity, water, air, see and ground transportation, telephone and cell service. It is interesting to see for how long palestinians would last boycotting. Palestinians are not known for making smart choices, but this one - suggested by Mustafa Barghouti, Erekat & others - is the most stupid thing I ever heard.

Everybody knows that the Oslo Accords are DEAD, along with the 2-state propaganda. The question is, why is the PA continuing to lie to the Palestinian people? Answer: To save face. While Izrahell pillages and destroys, the PA regurgitates old news that the other side is "not abiding by signed agreements" while we are...As if to justify the continued (meaningless) existence of the PA which was supposed to last 5 years, pending REAL and final independence.

Surrogate for Occupation- Financed by Outside Countries. The Oslo process has turned into a way for the costs of the occupation to be borne by those occupied and those who donate to them. It would be like Iraq footing the costs of the US invasion and occupation. Time for the donor countries to toss in the towel and let Israel decide if they want Iranian financing or want to bear the costs themselves.

Glad to see that finally, those who worked on Oslo accords are realizing that it is a failure. We gave Israel a cover to continue their occupation, in return for local autonomy. The world was tricked to think that Palestine State does exists, so no wonder we lost their attention. Not to mention, the shameful infighting we're engaged in and how demoralizing it is to our people. So now what to do? I am sure we're smart enough to come up with a workable plan.

Hoping here that this Friday, Palestinians worldwide (and not just the West Bank) will unite and demand that the PA formally declare the Oslo Accords null and void, citing the endless illegal settlements expansion and total judaization of Jerusalem...Then dissolve the PA and declare the West Bank to be subject of immediate International Trusteeship. The racist Zionists will eventually have to give in to international demands of 1-man, 1-vote in historical Palestine!

If we throw Oslo in the trash, Nothing will Change For The Better, since: - Israel will still continue building settlements, - Israel will still blockade Gaza, and - Israel will still have full control of Area C, but Things will Change For The Worse, since: - Israel will free to discontinue supplying water to Gaza & the PA, and - Israel will free to discontinue allowing the PA to import/export, even the most needs across Israel and Area C !!!!

Palestinians lived in dignity and survived before Oslo for years. The air and water are not Israel's and it is the occupier's problem to deal with the people they steal land from. We will still survive, but the ugly face of occupation will be better exposed. No confusion> no need to get a permit from the people who stole my land in order to roam the land!

Oslo agreement for Palestinian people is like the concentration camp’s rule. It was imposed on Palestinians by force with help from US & EU regimes. The most important point for Palestinians is to get a membership in UN assembly in order to judge the Nazi-Zionist-Jews for their war criminals. If we don’t get a Palestinian state on 67’s we should ask to get it on all Land of Palestine, it’s our right. Those who legalize the Nazi-Zionist-Israel should legalize the Nazi-Germany during Hitler’s time

UN, It's really weird to see how you guys always judge the Palestinian cause from one side and forget the other side. Palestinians are not known for making smart choices but at the same time Israelis are known for making illegal, unfair and inhumane choices like building settlements and letting the occupation goes on over the west bank and gaza. Palestinians are restricted by these agreements and they can;t do any progress in this conflict. While Israel is ignoring them! THINK REALISTICALLY !

It all happened by chance ... that Israel controls water resources, multiplied settlers and settlements 4 times, annexes Jerusalem, controls water resources, management of the borders, turning Palestinians in the West Bank into Ghettos residents in 223 separate/controlled communities, starving Palestinians, destroying Palestinian productive/independent economy etc ... it all happened by chance while Israelis are standing there waiting a Palestinian leader to help Israel implement Oslo agreement!

An interim agreement leading to a final peace agreement... signed by whom? There is no leader of a unity Palestinian government legally empowerd to sign a peace agreement with Israel, and therefore there is no peace agreement. There is occupation, Palestinian suffering, and ongoing armed conflict between the Palestinians and Israel because there is ongoing armed conflict between the Palestinians themselves. Unify, create a common platform, negotiate a peace agreement. There is no other way.

1) and 3) are you both as dumb as you wright? Don't you know that canceling the Oslo accords will be a dissaster for the Occupation? They must do everything, that will cost them a lot of dollars and a lot of energy they will be responsible for everything in the westbank and gaza...they where happy when the Oslo accords where made...I will also be happy when it will be cancelled..sure there will be hard times for us, but eventualy it will be harder for the Occupation

Recall first, the big hole in the ParisP/'Oslo'crap? Only Fatah/PA achieved a quasi "right of return",4 its faction only! And,only back to an occupied(SHRINKING)W/Bank!Just another refugee camp, like Gaza, but with "treats"4 obeying Israel! PA ignored theWHOLE occupation,ALL Palestinian nationals(Gaza,E/Jrslm,Diaspora)& their rights 2B free of OCCUPATION! Oslo was quasi-"liberation"4 an Israeli proxy(PA)only!Foolish Fatah went along,4 factional"glory",instead of TOTAL NATIONAL LIBERATION!So,UNITE!

The Oslo accord became oneside affair when zionist fanatics murdererd the the one Isreali leader who could have brought real peace to the region. Now the accord is an empty sinking vessel and only serves the ulterior motives of the zionists.

This charade must come to an end. Oslo and the PA were meant to consolidate the occupation. They both served their purpose very will. Haven't we suffered enough? Haven't we lost enough? Any Palestinian leader with a faint trace of dignity must realise this. Dissolve the PA and put the burden of the occupation of the occupiers not the occupied. The time is NOW.

The Oslo Accords were always "one-sided", because
- ISRAEL GOT NOTHING it did not already have,
except broken peace promises and state-sponsored terror, while
- THE PA GOT REAL ESTATE, water, electricity, etc. !!

Israel subcontracted the occupation to the P.A. without taking their settlers and going home to Israel. The P.A. should stop the charade and hand the occupation back to Israel. Then the PA should call for 1 person 1 vote, because whether anyone likes it or not, Israeli Jews and Palestinians are all in one state today, Israel. The question now is what the relationship to each other will be--apartheid or something else.

#1 - I can live with that. If it means holding Israel responsible for maintaining the occupation and providing social services to the occupied as dictated in international law, I'm ok with going ahead with that. The only way the occupation will end is if it becomes a financial and economic burden on Israel. If its too expensive to maintain, they'll seriously consider cutting their losses and getting out.
