Ehud Olmert was Israel's premier during a deadly assault on Gaza.
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Palestinian and German organizations on Friday protested as former Israeli premier Ehud Olmert spoke at a campus symposium in Iserlohn, Germany.
The protestors waved Palestinian flags and photos of Palestinians killed during the 2008 Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip, which claimed hundreds of lives in the coastal enclave.
Olmert was speaking at the BiTS, Business and Information Technology School, Campus Symposium, which is held annually.
Member of the union of Palestinian community in Germany Ali al-Hila said in a statement that the demonstrations came to remind of the “cruelties” Olmert committed against the Palestinians during his tenure as prime minister of Israel.
For his part, Nabil Abu Steina, another member of the union of Palestinian community said inviting Olmert to Germany wouldn’t help the Middle East peace process. “The natural place for war criminals is the International Criminal Court, and not this academic institution.”
