GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A 20-year-old man is in intensive care after setting himself on fire on Friday in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, the health ministry said.

Witnesses told Ma'an that Muhammad al-Khudri doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire.

Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said al-Khudri was admitted to the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis with severe burns.

The despair in Gaza is a tragedy for which Israel is 100% responsible.

Do we know why?

Paul, stop writing rubbish, while you yourself are an illegal settler, living on stolen Aborigine lands. Your hands are awash with the Black native inhabitants holocaust by your forefathers. As you sow, so shall you reap & as such the tradegy in Gaza is Gaza's 100% responsibilty.

I do not think I have ever seen an attempted suicide called an illustration of reaping what one has sown. It is amazing to me the delusions and perversions that some make out of religious scriptures. This act is a cry for help, an act of desperation, in direct response to Hopelessness caused by the Occupation, a crime against humanity the world sits back in silence and watches continue minute to minute, day to day, year after year.

1 ) ian / australia - There is no indication in this article it has anything to do with Israel. There is no mention of motive at all.

#3 "...the tradegy in Gaza is Gaza's 100% responsibilty." Not even a tiny Israeli input? Not the blockade? Not Cast Lead with the white phosphorus and "bomblets" and the 1,400 dead? Not the collective punishment of innocent children? Or the "collateral damage" from those "precision" IAF assassinations of "terrorists" (like that one on the beach, or the yoghurt factory, or the chicken farm)? Not even a teensy bit?

@ian Australia shall we blame the Israeli self immolation on the constant anxiety Palestinian terror inflicted on the Israelis, When will this useless back and forth cease !!poor human being that had to commit such a horrible act whether you are Palestinian or Israeli, may his soul rest in peace!'

#3 "Paul, stop writing rubbish..." Freudian slip? You're Paul. I'm ian. "As you sow, so shall you reap..." I agree. Yes, Australia has a dark past, like most places, and we can't undo what our "forefathers" did but we've made amends: everyone is a citizen here, all equal under the law, all with the same rights and the bad old ways are criminal offences (which BTW they weren't then). So surely it's Israel's turn to do the same...or as you say, reap what they've sewn over the years.

#7 (also #5) Of course it's horrible Yan, but why be coy about the causes? Or "fair" by making them equivalent? The Israelis who have set themselves on fire made it clear their economic plight was the reason. One left a note saying "The state of Israel stole from me and robbed me. It left me helpless", "I refuse to be homeless". The disabled IDF vet said the same thing...not "I can't live with the constant Palestinian terror." The 20-year-old Gazan had HIS own reasons but how could they NOT stem

(contd.) from the hellish situation Israel has created there with the blockade, the constant lethal strikes and collective traumatisation of 1.6 million people? "When will this useless back and forth cease !!" The end of criminal behaviour would end it. Yes, may their souls rest in peace.
