RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian security forces are ready to protect the electoral process in the West Bank to ensure that it is successful, spokesman Adnan Dmeiri said Monday.
"Elections must be implemented with full integrity and transparency and it's a national wedding dedicated to freedom and protecting Palestinian democracy," he said.
Palestinians must have the right to choose their representatives in a secure, calm environment, he added.
The security spokesman urged Palestinians to cast their vote in upcoming local elections in the West Bank.
The Oct. 20 elections will be contested in only 94 of the West Bank's 353 electoral districts, according to information released by the Central Elections Commission.
No eligible lists of candidates have registered in another 78 districts, and a second round of elections will be held on Nov. 24 in these areas, he said.
The full list of candidates is published on the Central Elections Commission
website.
