RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces handed out a stop-work order to a resident of a town northwest of Ramallah, ordering him to cease construction on his home.

Abed al-Tamimi from Deir Netham said his home was located in Area C, the designation under accords between the PLO and Israel for territory in the occupied West Bank under army control.

Israeli authorities are insisting on demolishing the home because it was built without a license, a Ma'an reporter said.

Israeli forces raided the village Thursday while delivering the order. Clashes erupted between soldiers and local youths, but no injuries were reported.

Al-Tamimi's home is located about 50 meters from Area B, which is under the theoretical joint control of the Palestinian Authority and Israel, the reporter said.

A day earlier Israeli forces issued orders to villagers to stop construction on their homes near Bethlehem, Nahhalin village council chief Osama Shakarneh told Ma'an.

Israeli soldiers accompanied by officials from Israel's civil administration distributed the orders to Noman Fanoun, Ahmad Fanoun, Iyad Musallam, Ghaleb Najajreh, and Abdulla Safi.

Nahhalin, west of Bethlehem, is surrounded by illegal Israeli settlements.

In an address to the UN in September, President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israeli authorities of demolishing infrastructure and restricting growth of Palestinian communities.

"These illegal measures have caused great damage to our economy and impeded our development programs and private sector activity, compounding the socio-economic difficulties being endured by our people under occupation," Abbas told a General Assembly meeting.
