RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The former secretary-general of the Arab League arrived in the West Bank on Sunday to meet Palestinian officials.

In his first visit to Palestine, Amr Moussa told reporters in Ramallah he was coming to take part in discussions over the situation in Palestine.

Moussa arrived in Ramallah with a delegation of Arab dignitaries, including former Jordanian prime minister Abed al-Salam al-Majali, by Jordanian helicopter, a Ma'an reporter said.

The delegates are due to participate in an economic summit in Nablus. Moussa told reporters the trip was part of regional discussions "to learn how to rebuild the Arab political system, in order to support Palestine."

Moussa laid a wreath on the grave of President Yasser Arafat in Ramallah on Sunday, ahead of a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas and other senior Palestinian officials.

He will also will visit the home of Munib al-Masri in Nablus, known as Beit Filisteen.

Al-Masri said he would brief the dignitaries on the economic and political situation in Palestine, including stalled reconciliation efforts between Fatah and Hamas.

A prominent businessman and political independent, al-Masri has acted as an interlocutor between the warring factions.

After the visit, Moussa will go to Jordan for talks with the country's foreign minister, before returning to his native Egypt, a Ma'an reporter said.

regional discussions "to learn how to rebuild the Arab political system, in order to support Palestine." still discussing about learning HOW to?! Will they reach the stage of learning how to? and then implement what they learn (assuming they still remember it)??? The so-call Arab league is a true league of incompetents and embarassing parasites. They don't have the courage to visit Gaza??
