GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday said Mossad agents who assassinated a Palestinian leader must be put on trial.

Khalil al-Wazir, known as Abu Jihad, was killed by Israeli operatives in Tunis in 1988, an Israeli newspaper revealed Thursday. Yediot Ahronoth published an interview with the commando who led the operation, after military censors cleared the story.

Abu Jihad was Yasser Arafat's deputy at the time. He was buried in Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria. His killing was condemned by the United States shortly after as an "act of political assassination."

Tunisia's Wafa party said Sunday it would sue Israel over the assassination.

Haniyeh met Wednesday with Mawlidi Mujahid, leader of Tunisia's Al-Asala party, in Gaza and urged the prosecution of Abu Jihad's killers in Tunisian courts.

The Gaza premier applauded Tunisia as the birthplace of the Arab Spring said Tunisian people had historically been supporters of the Palestinian cause.

israel picked Deir Yassin for special executions in 1940's. Any man woman or child caught in the town was murdered. Over 100 people were murdered most had no weapons & none were a part of an army. If Abu Jihad committed crimes as claimed by israel, israel had lead the way killing & killed way more civilians. It is like israel to claim someone was a terrorist & murder him so he cannot defend himself in a trial. Ask Anat Kamm, israeli journalist, exposed israels death squads. israel put her inJail

Yes, Tunis should not only sue, but help in war against Zionist Israel.

Mr. BigBelly is talking about Tunis to sue a Fatah leader...he is 24 years to late with this remark...what could the reason be of what he said?? Clearly just a political tactic and he and the gang he follows and follow him know this

#5 I agree with Dweikat. Mr. BigBelly should be doing something useful like reconciling with Fatah and holding elections for a new government (even if he won't be in it.) The killing of Khalil Al-Wazir was outrageous (in front of his wife and son) but it was decades ago everyone involved is dead...Shamir who ordered it, Lev who pulled the trigger...and in Hell, no doubt (with Abu Jihad quite possibly.) A show trial in Tunisia or suing Israel are worthless stunts and radical posturing from a guy

(contd.) by a guy who has no idea what to do about the nightmare Gaza is going through.
