BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Three Syrian mortars hit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Thursday morning, Israel's army said.

A military spokeswoman said they were "stray rockets from the internal conflict" in Syria. No injuries or damage have been reported.

Fighting in Syria has been edging towards its ceasefire zone with Israel in recent weeks.

Israel captured the territory from Syria in a 1967 war, and the ceasefire line is overseen by an international peacekeeping force.

An Israeli army vehicle patrolling a border area was damaged late Monday by gunfire from Syria, Israeli media reported.

On Saturday, three Syrian tanks entered a demilitarized zone of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the Israeli army said.

Israeli UN Ambassador Ron Prosor complained to the Security Council about the tanks, calling on the international community to "address this alarming development without delay to prevent further escalation."

In July, Israel said it would block any influx of Syrian refugees into the Golan Heights and launched a surprise battle exercise in the area.

Israel is technically at war with Damascus, but it has generally taken a cautious line on the conflict rocking its Arab neighbor.

That tank ain't no Israeli tank. It's a Russian made tank that was abandoned by the fleeing Syrian army in 1967. Now, it's a place for tourists to take photos.
