BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Clashes broke on out on Sunday between students and Israeli soldiers in the Bethlehem village of Tuqu, Ma'an's reporter said.

Students in the village had organized a march to commemorate the death of late president Yasser Arafat, and threw stones at Israeli soldiers who were positioned at the entrance to the village.

Soldiers fired tear gas and rubber bullets in response and later clashed with students in the center of the village.

why were the soldiers there, if not to provoke? Unless, of course, they expected trouble with some settlers barging in and going on their daily rampage. I'm not suggesting that the soldiers would protect the Palestinians. That would be a first.
