EL-ARISH (Ma'an) -- Bedouin tribes are planning a day of anti-government protests on Nov. 20 across the Sinai Peninsula, a tribal leader said Monday.

A head of the Tarabin tribe told Ma'an that Bedouin planned the "day of rage" because the Egyptian government has failed to implement post-revolutionary promises to reduce sentences handed to Bedouins in Sinai.

The tribal leader said Bedouin were given "oppressive" sentences for weapons and drug crimes under the regime of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, but President Mohammad Mursi has not reduced their terms.

Bedouin have attacked police stations, blocked access to towns and taken hostages to show their discontent with what they see as their poor treatment by Cairo and to press for the release of jailed kinsmen.
