BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Authority policewomen violently dispersed a sit-in of women and children in Hebron on Tuesday, a Palestinian rights group said.

Around 20 relatives of Raed Hmaydan al-Sharbaty gathered outside the Preventative Security headquarters in Hebron to protest his continued detention by the security force, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights said.

Policewoman dressed in civilian clothes attacked the demonstration, kicking and slapping women and children, PCHR said.

Obaida Raed al-Sharbaty, 4, and Toqa Hesham al-Sharbaty, 12, were taken to hospital with bruises and scratches as a result. Two journalists, Lama Khater and Bashaer Hisham al-Sherbaty, were also beaten, the rights group said.

Al-Sharbaty, 43, has been on hunger strike since his detention on Thursday, and was moved to hospital on Tuesday, PCHR reported.

The human rights organization call for a serious investigation into the assaults, as well as the violent dispersal of a unity rally in Gaza, also on Tuesday.

Hamas security forces arrested six protesters at the women-led demonstration demanding national reconciliation. A week earlier a similar rally was violently crushed, prompting a government apology.
