BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat on Thursday condemned Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip, which has killed at least 12 Palestinians in 12 hours.

"This exposes that Israel has an agenda for war but not for peace," Erekat said in a statement.

"We condemn in the strongest terms this new Israeli assassination which aims to initiate a bloody escalation. We hold the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences that this new act of aggression would bring to the region," he added.

PLO executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi also strongly denounced Israel's military escalation against the Palestinian people.

Ashrawi said in a statement that the military campaign was a "blatant provocation in violation of international and humanitarian law" and "a deliberate attempt to sabotage Palestinian efforts to achieve observer-state status in the United Nations."

She called on the EU, the Quartet and the international community to adopt "serious measures" to stop Israel's policy of extrajudicial executions, the killings of innocent civilians "and the continued oppression of Palestinians living under Israeli military occupation."

Well it's "brave" of you Erekat to FINALLY come out & say, what the whole observant, knowledgable world has KNOWN since the end of WW2. That invasion of radical Eurasian political/ideological Zionists in the 1930's even, had WAR,THEFT&ATTACK stamped on their foreheads, but for WHAT????The Palestinian people had done NOTHING TO THEM.They WELCOMED Jews into Palestine, until the Zionists stabbed the Arabs in the back, whilst UKG RAN,&abandoned Palestine to manic Zionism. It's as 'peaceful' as al-Qaeda!!!!

Pandering and a total lack of knowledge credibility here. Erekat and Ashrawi would not know Israel's intention if it ran them over.

@ 2), As much as I infer (and, if correct, am very grateful for) your support of us I have to say that Erekat and Ashrawi have valid points: We DID "start" this escalation again by breaking the (most recent) Egyptian-brokered "ceasefire" (in Arabc: a Hudna) by target-killing Ahmad al-Jaabari (and killing/causing massive injuries to those Palestinians who were so close they were also victims). Even if we achieve "victory" it will be meaningless because of this mutual, mass madness of suicide.

#2 "Erekat and Ashrawi would not know Israel's intention if it ran them over." Well, it HAS run over them and ALL Palestinians and Israel's "intention" is all too clear.
