HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and arrested a 20-year-old Palestinian in Beit Ummar in the southern West Bank early Sunday, a local spokesman said and the army confirmed.
Ahmad Awad sustained three bullet wounds to his back and is in a critical condition, said popular committee spokesman Muhammad Awad.
Israeli forces shot Ahmad Awad during a raid on his home and then arrested him, the spokesman added.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said forces shot at a man who "threatened to attack them with a firebomb."
She told Ma'an that soldiers fired at his lower body and that he was "evacuated by military vehicle" and taken for medical treatment.
The army spokeswoman said soldiers were in Beit Ummar to conduct arrests.
The incident led to clashes between Israeli troops and villagers. Israeli forces fired tear gas and sound grenades, and arrested 20-year-old Yousef Hashim and Yousef al-Alami, 24, the local official said.
